There were five bjds received, and these ranged all the way from $4G9 to $9G6. The tenders were referred to City Building Inspector Bird for report at the mooting of the Finance Committee to be held this afternoon. GET UNION BANK ^CONTRACT The contract for the erection of the new Union Bank Building on the corner of Hastings and''Seymour'street's/ has been awarded to Messrs. Hodgson, King & Marble, 508 Ixjndon Building. Work of dismantling the old building on the site of the proposed building has already been started by the contractors and it is hoped to have the foundations in and construction work well advanced before the rainy- weather starts in. The new\" building will be considerably larger than the one originally pjanne.d. by.the architects and will have a frontage,,- of**104 =feet ' on-.Hastings street and 70 feet on Seymour street, instead of 43 feet by 95. feet. The plans call for a three-story structure faced with Haddington Tsland stone, while the interipr will be finished in i marble and bronze. The upper floors of the building will be used for offices. PLANS IMPROVEMENTS TO OLD PEOPLE'S HOME Acting on the recommendation of Dr. F. T. Underbill, city medical health officer, the Civic Health and Building Committee at its meeting last Monday decided to carry out considerable improvements to the Old People's Home in the, East End. It was estimated that the improvements contemplated will cost about $2,500, and as soon as the work is formally authorized by. the City Council—which is expected to pass the recommendation at its meeting next Monday—tenders will be called for the work.
