A special committee, consisting ! of Aldermen Owen, Kirk, and Rogers. I has been appointed, to consult with I the city engineer and bring down a report and plans for a small, one-story addition on the vacant plot to the south of the, city hall building. The cost, of the proposed addition is at present limited to Sln.OOO. but this may be slightly increased, in view of the fact that Aid. Kirk, civic finance chairman, considers that the civic administration will probabiy have to get along in that building for perhaps the next ten years before civic finances will allow of commencing work on a city hall that will be in keeping with the dignity of Canada's fourth city. It had originally been proposed that SUITABLE BUILDING IS WANTED FOR WAR EXHIBIT There will arrive in the city about the end of the month the greatest collection of war exhibits ever gathered in the Dominion. It comprises nearly ten carloads of articles that range from a damaged Hun airplane and field artillery down to a Prussian \"piekelhaube.\" The collection has been assembled by the Dominion government, under whose auspices it will be shown here, as in the other principal cities to the east. Just where to show this mammoth exhibit is a query that is being wrestled with by a special aldermanic committee, consisting of Aldermen McRae, Owen, and Shelly. Capt. Martin, representing the Dominion government, in charge of the huge display, put the problem up to the city, for in accordance with the custom followed in other cities, everything in the way of housing and lighting was supplied by each city where the exhibit was shown, while the government paid the transportation—no small bill, either, when it comes to loading and unloading ten carloads— and the local military authorities provided the necessary men. WARNS OF UNEMPLOYMENT Plain warning that unemployment in the city was increasing and that it was\" clearly up to. the public authorities, both civic, provincial and federal, to prepare to meet the situation, that would be serious before long, was conveyed to the civic industries committee at its\"\"'meeting last Monday by %iipt. George D. Ireland, of the city relief department. Supt. Ireland, who in addition to his numerous other duties conducts a civic employment bureau, stated that conditions were now exactly reversed from what they were last summer, when there were about two jobs for every man avail MINING i It is welcome news to the Similka- meen that the Trail Consolidated Company is making preparations for big development on the Voight copper claims between Princeton and Copper Mountain, which this concern took over recently. The announcement that the company intends to start at once on the erection of-a bunk house for 150 men can be taken as an , indication that real business will begin in the spring. Doubtless the construction of a short Ore in a body of large dimensions has been struck in the Galena Farm mine at Silverton. The body is .12 feet wide and contains milling and shipping values. It was disclosed in the operations of J. W. Casey and associates, lessees, who obtained a block of the property when operations were suspended by the company several months ago.
