The n w school will be one of the largest in a municipality rhat is .already noted for its fine edu- cntional \"\"Institutions which include among others, the new University of British Columbia. It was originally intended to erect an eight room school on this site, hut the large increase in the population rt^this section ot- Point Grey, dueHo the influx of many new'families, and the consequent increased demand for school accommodation, has called for a complete revision of the original, f.lans for schQOl buildings in this section of the* municipality. The new. school is ultimately intended to have sixteen class rooms, but for the present, however, only one wing or a building to contain eight class rooms will be erected. Later, when further accommodation is needed, it is planned to add the other additional eight ci;u?K rooms, while at the same time, I rovision is also made so that further auditions can be made in tiro form of another wing. The first unit of the new school however, will be a very complete one, and in addition to the eight class rooms-, will contain a large-assembly hali and auditorium, principal's, teachers' and* medical inspector's rooms. From Labrador to the Alaskan boundary we have a belt-of woodland averaging perhaps five to eight hundred miles in width, which, with the exception of a certain proportion of mus.- keg and a much smaller one of naked rock, carries soft wood timber, over its whole surface. Much of this timber is of inferior value as lumber, but it makes the finest, pulp-stock available today. What the-future1, niay bring-in-the way of newly discovered material is beyond conjecture, but as the case stands. Canadian .spruce is, the ideal of the paper manufacturer. Moreover, it grows in bewildering quantities. To thp. casual observer it would seem im- .possible, for Canada,'s small population to make an appreciable inroad in this enst $87,497 by the city engineer. - The third undertaking calls for lay- in*- concrete walks and grading of West -59th Street at a cost of $16,500. It will be' necessary for the successful contractor to |pmove 5400 cubic yards of material in performing ,the work called for in this contract. PLANS ANOTHER BIG POINT GREY SCHOOL (Contirnied from pag-e 1.) era schools, the building will be two stories high with a full concrete basement. The exterior will be of brick finish with interior walls of hollow tile,, which should make the building un easy one to heat during the winter months. The brick exterior will be pleasingly relieved . with art stone dressings while a slate roof will add lu the fireproof nature of the building. Tho -floors will all be finished with Sa'i San surfacing while the heating throughout will be by steam. Ample provision wjll also bo made for good ventilation by a natural exhaust system, i The architects expect to have the plaus ready about the middle of January.
