A few weeks ago when the editor was visiting the Mother Lode, he was surprised at the many changes since his last visit. All the ore now comes from the glory holes. In these the working method has changed gradually from training t> blasting directly into the chutes. Thesechutes have grown from small uprases into huge funnels, large enough to hold about 600 and 2000 tons respectivly. From the bottom of these chutes the ore runs directly into large ore cars ia the tunnel below. These are pulled by horses to the big crusher at the mouth of the tunnel. The big quarry has two such chutes. Higher up and back on the mountain is the sulpher quarry which is worked much in the same way, but with one chute. A construction train passed here yesterday and returned this morning. Smith & Mc&ae. Bcoks, Sta io.er Wall i>ap*r, Etc. THE CANAD.Ai-4 LAL\\K OF COMMERCE.
