Forks last week with the good news that
his company would reopen their properties at ontie. This action was decided op
presumably owing to' the fact that the

on a lower scale of wages, the same as
now prevails at R rssland and Butte' and
elsewhere. This voluntary action on the
part of the men to return to work at a
reduced wage is a wise one under the cir

they were "systematically brought
in under contract, by large employers of labor, the >two chief offenders
being the Wellington Colliery Company and the C. P. R., has been
proven beyond a dcmbt.

ernor, entered into contracts with a
Japanese agency to supply men able
to do all kinds of work about his
collieries. Tbe Orientals, as we
have already pointed out, were to
work, at about h If the wages of
white men. More than that, it was
part of the undertaking that in.the
event of a'strike ihey should coi -
tinue at work. It follows.that had
the Wellington Colliery Company
been able to obtain enough Japanese miners, mine-laborers, carpenters, and machinists, they would
have^heen. hi a portion, to demand
a reduction of Wages all along the
line and to have continued to work
th^ir mines with the Asiatics until
the white men we.e starved into
submission. To what extent the
possiDiliefl of trouble was foreseen,
trouble which'might almost besiid.
to be in process of preparation, the
ominous clause in the contract by
which the company binds itself to
supply pn taction for the Japanese
workers in case of a strike clearly
tells. Fortunately for the collieries
of Vancouver Island the scheme
fell through as it was found impossible to secure more than forty Jap-'
anese who would work in the mines.

pains can be promptly stopped by a thoroughly safe little pink candy tablet,
known by druggists everywhere as Dr.
Shoop's headache tablets. Pain simply
means congestion—undue blood pressure
at the point where pain exists. Dr.
Shoop's headache tablets quickly equal
ize this unnatural blood pressure, and
pain immediately departs. Write Dr
Shoop, Racine, Wis., and get a free trial
package. Large box 25 cts.
To check a cold quicklv, get from your
druggist some little candy cold tablets
called Preventics. Druggists even where 1

are not only safe, but decidedly certain
and prompt. Preventics contain no
quinine, no laxative, nothing ,harsh nor
sickening. Taken at the "sneeze stage"
Preventics will prevent pneumonia, !>ron-
