A letter was received from the Board of Governors
in regard to the recommendation of Senate relative to the
proposed re-establishment of the Course in Home Economics
and the establishment of a Faculty of Law.- The Board had
postponed action on this matter pending the preparation
of the estimates for 1941-42. Later, when the estimates
were drawn up, it was decided that items for these proposed courses should not be included.
From the Faculty of Arts and Science
Dean Buchanan presented a recommendation of the
Faculty of Arts and Science that the following courses be
authorized,-
Latin 24 - Virgil
(For Graduate 'Students)
English 27 - Modern English Speech
(To be given in the Summer Session)

* On Military Education
A communication was received from Lieut.-Col G. M.
V Shrum, under date of December 17th, giving a statement of
; the work of the Committee on Military Education in refer-
ence to the organization of compulsory Military Training
» and reporting on the action of a Sub-Committee of the
Committee on Military Education which had been appointed
to consider applications for exemption. The report con-
^ ^P tained, also, a statistical summary of enlistments. 808

take charge of the acknowledgement of decorations and distinctions and the sending out of notes of congratulation
to University students and graduates receiving decorations
during the War.

a progress report.

A letter from the President, under date of December
16th was read, in reference to a proposed course in Air
Raid Precautions and Allied Work, to be offered at the
University, for members of the Fire and Police Departments
of Vancouver and vicinity. A report on the plan of the
proposed course, it was stated, would be submitted to
Senate at a later meeting.
The letter was received for information.
A request was received from The Anglican Theological
College and Union College that the statute concerning Religious Knowledge Options (Note 1, Page 78, Calendar 1940-
41) be amended to the effect that the privilege of taking 809
Wednesday, December 18th, 1940.
Religious Knowledge Options for credit, which is now
limited to students who have expressed their intention of
graduating in Theology, be opened to any student in the
Arts course.

Dr. Trumpour) That the petition be referred to
the Faculties for consideration
and report.

The Chairman expressed his appreciation of the
spirit of co-operation and good will which had characterized the work of the Senate during the year, and extended
to the members of Senate best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Dr. Trumpour and Mr. A. E. Lord voiced the kind
wishes of the members of the Senate to the President for
the Christmas season.
The meeting adjourned.
