Canned Salmon. We are all proud of our canned salmon. We are proud of it for the fact that it leads the world in quality, and the higher grades command prices in excess of those put up by our competitors in the United States and Alaska. What may not be known to many, however, is, that in those waters of the Province where no international questions are concerned, because of wise limitations, the salmon, which is the greatest fish food of commerce, is not a diminishing quantity, This is the only part of the Pacific coast of which this can be said. The reason for this is the wise policy which was, 1 am happy to say, Inaugurated by the Prime Minister on his assuming the position of Commissioner of Fisheries in the McBrlde Government, and has since been followed out by him. Mr. Manson in the Legislature contains a lot of information relative to this northern part of the Province, as well as with respect to the Province as a whole. The figures given indicate to what an extent the industrial centre British Columbia is tending to change. Before many years pass this section of the Province should be very prominently in the forefront. A SMELTING CENTRE. Witii all the mining development that is now in progress in this northern part of the Province there is every reason to believe that a custom smelter at Prince Rupert, or very vlnse to it, would be an economic need. It is likely that within a very short time such a smelter would be a commercial success. ALWAYS SOMETHING LACKING. ii. C.
