THREE YEARS' WAR IS LIKELY CORRECT Signs Multiply Kitchener's Calculn. tions Will He Pretty Accurate. Frederick Palmer, the New York war correspondent, lias returned from England and the battle-front. He .ippears to be confident that the Allies will win, but that it will be a long drawn-out war. He said that Edith Cavell, the English nurse who was executed by the Germans in Brusesls, is regarded by the soldiers In tbe trenches now as a (second Joan of Arc. "Remember Nurse Cavell!" Is their battle cry as they rush headlong In the charge on the enemy's trenches. "The execution ol Edith Cavell," Mr. Palmer said, "did more for recruiting in England than all ihe raids. "England has plenty ni' men now who are ready, waiting to be sent to the front. She can send seven hundred anil fifty thousand trained troops to l he Near East Immediately, If they can be transported and supplied with munitions. Kitchener has organized his big army and it only waits for artillery, machine guns nnd shells. They have plenty of them now and the sending of three-quarters of a million men to Serbia would not interfere with tlie western army. "Kitchener has finished bis work and has now gone to the Balkans to see what he can do there in the way of helping the fighting. The Britisli army has had a hard time getting together, because everything had lo be prepared. IKtcbener said at the Coal Miners Caught In Workings Of Washington Nine Paris, Nov. 16.—An official report says:—The day has been characterized only by artillery actions, which were especially intense in Champagne, in the Argonne on the Woevre and in Alsace. Fighting Near Dixniude. Belgian Front, Nov. 16.—An official report says a somewhat violent bombardment of our advanced positions at a number ot points on our front north of Dixmude has occurred. Some projectiles were thrown within our lines to the south of that locality. Our artillery replied to the German batteries, cannonading the enemy's trenches and dispersing the military pioneers of tlie army of the east. Seattle, Nov. 16.—Thirty-four men were entombed in the Northwestern Improvement Company's coal mine at Ravensdale as the result of an explosion of coal dust in the main slope early tonight. Four of the men have been rescued by a rescue team sent from Seattle. One of the men is dead, the other three have been revived by the use of pulmotors. The rescue party is working industriously to reach the thirty men still unaccounted for.
