' While the landslide for the Hon. Mr. McBride and his colleagues was very large and emphatic, still it was only what could reasonably ie expected from an impartial point of view. When Premier McBride took over the rein-., of office three years ago he launched what has proven to be the only1 administration in British Columblia that could be termed confidence-inspiring or that bore any of the ear-marks of moral reliability or sincerity of purpose. With such tactics as these being employed and the libelous canards spread broadcast on various public matters, is it to be wondered that the voters marked their ballots in such numbers for the Conservative cause? Ordinarly the large majority tendered Mr. McBride for carrying on his work might reasonably be looked upon as excessive for clean and scrupulous administration. But exceptional circumstances surround this particular election. Not only is it an evidence of supreme confidence in the men who practically took the province out of the mire and placed it in its present enviable position; not only is it a general admission that Mr. McBride it the logical man and his party the logical party to successfully combat the better terms cause. The result of the general provir cial elections which were held on Saturday proves beyond doubt that the McBride administration was I good one. During the campaign and before, the oppositicn hurled scandal after scandal on to the min isters ami members of the Consciv ative pttty. The only plan in the Lilieral platform was that of scand al, and the returns of the election show that the electorate had W confidence in the men of the oppo sition or their vaporings. As far as we can learn there are twenty nine Conservatives, ten Liberals, two Socialists, with one place to give final returns. The premier, who came in for considerable abuse, was elected in two constituencies, and every minister of the government returned. The government has a good majority and will be able to carry on the business of the country in a very satisfactory state, which will induce capital that has been awaiting the return of a stable government, such as the McBride administration. The Vaneouvei and Victoria constituencies gave a solid five and a solid, four candidates respectively. In the interior constituencies there were few changes, Yale riding, which is on the eve of prosperity, returning an opposition member to look after its interests, which it is to lie hoped will be done better than the last three years. One thing, the repu diation of the Ottawa machine, s.iotild convince the Dominion government that it cannot coerce British Columbia and the turning dowi. of an ex-governor and judge, with the gold cure distributed freely, should make them crawl into their hole for a time. *Jy." m-'zt' 1 ma. i ''Jiwl m$$m \\ pi:: ?: i i ..> r.
