BECOMES A ARRESTED fou murder. San Francisco, Nov. 30.The ferry boatt San Rafael and Snnoilito collided in the bay in a dense fog to- niirlit. The San Rafael was sunk and it in thought a number of lives have been lost. The Sancilito waB towed up tlie bay, Tugs have gone to the scesc of the collision whioh was off Acntraz island. Reports as to the number of lives lost aro very conflicting and the estimates run as high as .10. The San Rafael was on her way from this city to Sauolllto and had, it is estimated, from llil to 250 passengers. Tin fan Rafael was struck amidships, sinking almost Immediately. A large number of the passengers were rescued by ropes from Alcatraz island. James Moore, of Ross valley, an employee of the Nevada Hank, waB a pasieiih'or on tho San Rafaei. To a reporter he said: "There was the usual Saturday orowd on tlie San Rafael when she left at 0.15 for Sancilito, There was a dense fog and Capt. McKenzic, of the San Rafael, sent the ship along under a slow hell. We nere about half way between Lombard street wharf and Alcatraz island when the Sancilito crashed into us. I was smoking a cigar on the fnvard deck of the San Rafael aod it seemed to me that the Saucllito struck us just shout amiships. There was Iterrlilio crash and immediately there was wild confusion. Men,women and children rushed for life preservers There were from 150 to 200 people on ward the San Rafael. Some of ihem limped overboard an soon as the steamers collided, bnt I made up my mind to stay by the ship; I had put on a life preserver and knew that I would float for a while at least. There wns an attepmt to lower a boat on tlie Han Rafael but I don't believe many people got off in it. There was too much confusion and fog for much to be done, Tlie last report from the Becne of the collision states that the San Rafael had about 250 passengers on board. It Is thought, however.that most of them were saved and that the loss of life is not very great. Many of the passengers escaped in life preservers. The Sancilito stood by and lowered boats, reselling a iargc n_m__r 0f passengers. A conservative estimate places tae number of drowned at 20. RAISING THE 8INEWS. Despite the hot weather I kept gaining in strength and mentally, a thing I had never done at that season of the year. I found the food an excellent stimulant fur the brain, and I could do mure and better work thnu I had ever done. It was a revelation to discover how closely tho brain and digestive organs were in sympathy with each other. Whatever retarded the work of one had a corresponding effect on the other, and the food that tended to put one in proper shape acted accordingly on the other. 1 know that my great improvement mentally and physically came from dispensing with unwholesome food and nslmj Grape-Nuts liberally. j _ Playford and Co , tobacconists, hare assigned for the benefit of their creditors to II. li.
