This is the opportunity of your lifetime, Mr. Miner. We are to be visited by the American Institute of Mining Engineers. The following interesting communication was received this week : Revelstoke, Jan. 20, 1905. Secretary, Board of Trade, Trout Lake, B.C. The regular communication of Tuscan Lodge was held on Thursday the 19th inetant. This was tlie first meeting since the newly- elected officers were installed, and was the occasion of the brethren showing their appreciation of the services of Past-Master Geo. N. Taylor by presenting him with a silver tea and coffee service* (with tray), suitably engraved. Brother Taylor was mainly instrumental in having a lodge installed at this point, and since the inception, a year ago last March, has held the position of Master. The better halves of the brethren were invited to attend the festivities after tin- regular business of the lodge. Those attending from the outside were Mr. and Mrs. George Lux, of Beaton, Messrs. Bullard and Coleman, of Camborne, Mr. and Mrs. H. Carter, Dr. W. E. and Mrs. Newcombe, J Q, and Mrs. Mc - Kinnon, J. C. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick, and A. F. and Mrs Rankine. of Ferguson. The banquetting room was tastefully decorated, and the appetites of the guests were agreeably tickled. Bro. H Me- Pherson in making the presentation made mention of the high regard and esteem in which Bro. Taylor was held, and expressed thc opinion of all when he stated that it was only through the oxer- tioes of P.M. Taylor that Tuscan Lodge No. 39 had not only an existence, but wa« looked on all over the Jurisdiction as one of its best equipped and drilled lodges. , ' Lake Localets. The Horseshoe Shipping. The Horseshoe lessees have made their initial shipment of ore. It is expected that the shipment will run over $150.00 per ton. The Uorsesh«>e is one of oar promising properties, and has sent at different times shipments of good value to smelters. It is owned by Andy Craig and Ed. llilhnan, and adjoins the famous Lucky Boy property. The present lessees have undertaken a systematic plan of development, and we look to see the property turning out a sucoess. All Ferguson, their sisters, brothers and cousins, were here in holiday attire. They went home happy and contented over their winnings at hockey, and the denizens of Trout Lake arc also happy and appreciate the good-will shown by the attendance of so many from their sister town. We regret to announce the departure this week of J. 15. Henderson and family for Grand Forks. When the Canadian Timber and Sawmills Co. were first organised, Mr. Henderson was appointed general manager, and held that position until the company got into financial difficulties last fall. As friends and citizens Mr. Henderson and his family have been all that could lie desired, and their absence- will be missed both in church and social circles Miss Eva will, however, remain as post-raistress here, and Miss Isabel will retain her position as teacher at Ferguson. The Review wishes the family all prosperity wherever they may go. Host McLennan of the Windsor is expected home the beginning of next week. Fred Elliott, Beb Benson. Alec. Crawford, and A. W. Edge, left Monday for Nelson to take part in the Bonspiel. We trust the bovs will make a good record for Trout Lake and bring back some k;nd of a trophy with them. As an incentive to do or die, the first three gentlemen took their wives along. The fourth would it he could. Lafe McLellan and Fred Mil's are down from the Horoe Shoe putting in a few days' holidays. A sociable evening was spent Monday at the Oddfellows' Hall, the occasion being a farewell party to the Misses Henderson. A large number were present, who all expressed their regret at the departure of the family referred to. E. L. Ainnian is taking out his logging plant this week. This is no indication that the lugging business of this part is played out, but only that the present company ann Mr. Kinnvin cannot agree. E. L has taken a big contract on the Arrow Lakes, which'we trust will be a profitable one. 0. B N. Wilkie and family left Thursday for the coast, where they will spend the new few months. We regret to learn that the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Madden is seriously ill. We trust that the illness will only be tem- porary, and that the little one may l>e spared to grow us big as his father " Bob." A lady applicant for a school in a neighbouring school district was asked the question I " What is your position upon whipping children?" and her reply was—" My usual position is on a chair with tin wild held firmly acros.» my knees, face downward."—She didn't get the job, J. The curling team visiting Nelson were doomed to disappointment, for on arrival there they heard of its postponement by reason of the unfavorable change in the climut.. To the game. Ferguson defended the jzoal at the entrance end. and on the puck being started Trout Lake immediately attacked. Keeping up the pressure the Lake team could do everything but scor.-. the \\ Lenin cleared by the Ferguson • fence almost miraculously, only to be brought into action for a further fusilade. The game was .v ;- ingly fa.st, and the players were showing the effects of it. It appeared at thi.- juncture that Fer- gtiMiti men were wearing the best for they took up the attack i. spirited fashion, BchuUe in the Lake goal was literally bombarded with shots, and at length a yell from the Ferguson rooters heralded the fall of the l.ak. goal. The latter now made a supreme effort to equalize, and a smart run by Henderson on the right was rendered futile by Ern Crawford, who was a team in himself. Half- time arrived with Ferguson ace in hole anrj the Lake pressing. Immediately on resuming. The Carnival ht-ld a' the Skating Mink on Tuesday last must go down to history as one of Trout Lake's most brilliant functions. A thaw hivil set in during the day, but the joe in the rink was not (materially affected, and a big crowd assembled to participate in the brilliant scene, Huts off to the promoter! So pay all of the bright throng who glided over the smooth itie while enchanting musia supplied by the local orohestrn fell on the ear. And what an air of mystery pervaded the hall I Graceful courtiers pirouetted with meek and lowly nuns, while a warlike Sioux peacefully gyrated with n gentle shepherdess. There were to bo seen a galaxy of clowns, pierrots and punchinellos. ladies in garb of cavaliers, gentle- men attired as Bohemian girls, and children Hitting hither and thither us elfs, cupida and will-o'-wlsps. There were a good tnuatur of sight- re. rs, and it wa* generally conceded that the judges had a very hard task to award the prizes. However, Mrs. A. JJ. Jov/ett nnd Ed. Ward were singularly successful in this, and in making tlivjr awards hit the popular fancy. The first prize in the ladies' series was raptured by Miss EHie Batlio, who looked charming as a Spanish dancer, Tim second prize for the funniest costume waa won by Mrs. Gal. Garrison, whose make-up and . rotesque capers as a nogro washerwoman wore exceedingly smart, liert Fowler as an Indian chief was h fine creation, and the first prize was well merited The prize for ihe funniest costume was won by tlie Wild Man from Borneo, an portrayed by Johnny Kennedy, a most original and ludicrous impersonation. A word of praiso mast Ix1 bestowed to tbe band for the part they contributed to the evening's enjoyment Ere departing, one and all Voted the carnival a huge success. An Opportunity.
