The'local Lodge of Odd Fallows, a branch of one of the greatest and most-progressive of fraternal societies, has, byits decision to erect a business block in Ladner, given an impetus to'the progress of the'town which will have no small effect in improving its position as a commercial centre. That the eorifi- dence in 'the future ef -/the town thus evinced is not misplaced we do not doubt Situated as we are, the only town ia the -richest agricultural district in British Columbia, the future of Ladner is .certainly very promising. On Wednesday evening last the contract fox the erection of this block son the .southeast corner of Delta and Trenaat streets, -was awarded to Messrs. Paterson & Surrey Council. From the committee, re Miftcc case, as follows: We, 'the committee appointed to investigate the Milton waiter case, beg to report as follows: After careful inspection we have decided that the cheapest and most feasible way in which to dispose of the said water is by a ditch, west from the culvert, along 'the Milton road to building, as called for in the plans and specifications, should prove of interest to -the community in general The building, which is to be a two-storay one, will have a frontage on Delta stroet of 40 feet, with a depth of 70 feet. The design ot the front of the building is such as to afford the best of lighting to the several interiors whilst at the same rime presenting a very sdlid and substantial appearance. The ground floor will be divided into store, bask and club premises. A. Clausen, jeweller, will occupy the corner store, which is to be 11x24 feet. The Royal Bank of Canada have leased the remaining and greater portion of the front part -of the building, whilst the rear portion, a spacious-room, 24x40 feet, will be fitted in an up-to-date manner as a billiard and club room. The lodge iTOom will .occupy the -greater por- ton of the upper floor, being about 18x45 feet, with a large platform at either end and a smaller one running along each side. The elaborate arrangement of vestibule and ante-rooms will make this one ot the most convenient and complete lodge rooms in the province. The entrance, which is on the side and rear of the building, is made into a vestibule 19x24 feet. From this a right and left regalia -room opens also two ante-rooms built not only; for style but wear. ,, 5 {* REPAIR1NQ A SPECIALTY. i\\ huqh Mcdowell, .. " 3 t S V LADNER, B.
