CUNNINGHAM k CO., 74, Columbia Street, New Westminster, B. C. Agent* fur Hrnp'H Patent forth flow to aiul Ontario Pump t'o, dfeSte To the Electors ofthe Electoral District of New Westminster. GENTLEMEN:— Shortly after the lamented death of our Into Kepresei.tntlve, Mr. Homer, I wus Solicited by a number of my friends, to allow myself to be nominated as a Gandldnte for the IteprcHeiitu- thm of the Dlstrlet of New Wc*ttnlnnter In the House of Commons of Canada. The personnl solicitation of friends, was short* ly followed by requisitions so numerously signed, by prominent uud lnllueuinl Electors of the Oity und District, that I felt lt to bemy duty to place my services at their disposal. It Is nut thereforo, Gentlemen, nsuBOlf-nomlnnted candidate, that 1 ask for your support, but I do so in response to the request of over four hundred of your number, . To many of you, Gentlemen, who hnve known me for along time, it is unncceu* ■ury forme to say, thut I am perfeotly fam 11 Iur with thu great and varied re* sources of this Province. My knowledge of Its Mining, Fishing, Agricultural and Commercial advantages has been derived from actual experleuee, nnd will (If elected) onable mo (o place prominently be* foro Parliament, the great resources of thin Province, nnd the means necessary to bu employed to nid In their further development. It Is Impossible, Gentlemen, In an ad* drcsB such as this to do moro thau allude to some of thc questions of Interest nnd Importance to yon. which an your representative, I would consider it to bo my duty to bring to thc notice of Parliament. I Will, however, enumerate a fow matters of great Importance to us all, in regard to which It will bo my earnest endeavour to obtain benulleial legislation. twill endeavour to liuve removed from the mouth of our noble Itlver, every Impediment to its free navigation, and havo necessary lighthouses erected. 1 will endeavor to secure to settlers and squatters an Immediate title to their lands. This I consider to be a matter not only of justice, but nlso of expediency. Heretofore great. Injustice has been done ton valuable and deserving class of our population, to whom, hud justice boon done and fnellltles ammloil for acqiilrlui; homesteads, tlie results of their Industry would, ere this, hnvo done much to devi 1 np tho agricultural capabilities of this lino district. I nm aware, Gentlemen, that tlie num* boi of representatives to whieh cueh provlncoof thp Dominion Ih entitled Is bused upon population, yet I believe that, owing to cxeeptiomil 'drcumstuncos, such ub tho fact that this province contributes to the revenue of thu Dominion a much larger percentage, aeeordlng to population, than any of thu other provinces; aiul nlso to the fact tbat largo centres of nouuhitlon aru rapidly being formed In this district— that It ts entitled to a larger representation ln tho parlinment of the Dominion, and which ns a matter of Justice I will endeavor to obtain, I will also endeavour to obtain for the resldonts of this District bottor postal fiicllliics, to which they are justly entitle 1. I will use my boBt efforts to secure equitable rates on nll railway und telegraph lines, and to have the samo fixed by law. Tho Interests of British Columbia demand that every impediment In the way of constructing railways to onr Southern boundnry and other portions of this district bo removad to nld in tho develop* ment of our resources. I will endeavor to have this necoippllshed, and also to obtain nld for the construction of canals and the Improvement of navigable streams. I will also consider It my duty to render all possiblo aid to any legislation whioh seeks to simplify and render less costly the administration of Justice, especially as between Individuals nnd corporations. My Ipolltical platform Is, lu the first place, tho Interest of British Columbia, which I believe can bo best served by my giving an Independent support to the presont government, which has not In the past been unmindful of the Interests of British Columbia, nnd to whom we aro Indebted for tht early completion of the railway, which has brought un Into communication with the Eastern Provinces nnd Europe, and through tho agency of whieh, wo will In the near future, be placed In direct communion! Jon with Australla.Chlna.Japnn, and tho Great Eastern Empire, which must provo to bo of Incalculable value to this province, and to this district In particular. In conclusion, gentlemen, I have only to say. thnt I am prompted by a sincere desire io benefit this d iHtrlct and to nld In promoting Its varied Interests, and I nsk rour support only upon these grounds, tis my intention to seo as mnny of you previous to the election ns time and clr- eumstnnceswlll admit of ln the meantime. Whitk Bronze Monument*. — White Bronse is a comparatively new substance, and has come into large use, rapidly, for special purposes in this country. It hu been found to bo so Well adapted for statuary and monuments, that companies have been for some time established at Bridgeport, Conn., Detroit, Mich., Des Moines, Iowa, and St. Thomas, Canada, who are making monuments of all kinds and styles. From experiment! made by these companies, It has beon found that the material will stand exposure for an Indefinite period—It is practically indestructible. White Bronze being non- corrosive and unchangeable, it is stated to be equal to gold, silver or platinum, and superior to copper or antique bronse, which throws off a verdigris. The monuments are oast from refined sine, and are given their sparkling appearance by the sand blast, sand being blown against the work under a high pressure of steam, which cuts the surface, but does not adhere to it. A thin film of oxide whioh forms on this bronse is indistructtble by the elements; it cannot be dissolved by water, and atr cannot penetrate it, although the film is so thin as to he immeasurable, No corrosion, It is affirmed, oan take place.—Boston Journal of Commerce, Chas.
