The Manager,
Brunswick Cannery,
IADHBH, B.C.
Dear Sir:
Regarding the collection of Poll Tax for the
current year; there will be a little change in the method
of collection from the arrangements heretofore. Pe have
asked the Municipal Authorities at Vancouver to mail you
receipt books together with a circular on this subject and
in future it will be necessary for you to collect the Poll
Tax from all employees who are residents of Vancouver and
who cannot produce an existing receipt showing that their
current year's Poll Tax has already been paid, and remittance
sent to the City Treasurer at Vancouver within thirty days
from the date of employment.
The circular which the City Treasurer is sending you gives you ell the information which" you will require
but we would like to add that we ./ill have to figure on
collecting the Toll Tax from your Chinamen working under your
Chinese contract. The law unfortunately provides that
we eust do this and the onus is not on the Chinese contractor.
ITo doubt you will see thet the Chinese Contractor does it
for you, but we are responsible.
Ps f r as the fishermen are concerned; we would
point out th t this poll tax is collectable from fishermen
who have a working egreement with us for the disposal of
their catch or part of their catch. But we are not responsible for the collection of the poll tax from any fisherman who is an absolutely independant man as he would not
be regarded as an employee.

Pa see 2.
You will bear in mind that the foregoing
refers only to residents of Vancouver; collections from
all other employees will be made and dealt with in the usual
way.
Yours truly,
B.C. Pishing & Packing Co., ltd.,
AssTt General Manager
