This will affect the smelting and mechanical departments to a certain extent and necessitate a reduction in the number of men employed in these departments. Happily the concentrator has proved to be all it was designed for and more. Originally intended as a 1000-ton per day unit, Granby men have brought its tonnage treatment to 1500 tons every 24 hours, and it is confidently expected that within the next few months 2000 tons of ore will be handled at the Anyox mill. Everything at present favorably indicates that this will be an accomplishment before the year ends. In addition to the ores handled by the new mill, the old pilot mill is to be rehabilitated for the treatment of certain ores, and the output of the mine speeded up. The work contemplated for Granby Point Quartz earlier in the year will not be proceeded with at present, sufficient ton- suits. It has been decided to nage of silicous ores coming ship the product of the concentrator mill direct to Tacoma and shipments will go forward until such time as experiments, being continuously carried on, will justify the smelting of the concentrates entirely at Anyox. Between fourteen and fifteen hundred tons of Hidden Creek ore were being concentrated daily at the mill and the concentrate result smelted prior to the j decision to ship the mill product south, and apart from the increase in smelting costs the recovery of values was considerably belo"' what the management was justii ;d in expecting, a fair percentage of values undoubtedly disappearing up the stacK with the Hue smoke.' It is now hoped that the problems responsible for this loss will be solved within the next few months and that the entire output of the mill will be smelted locally. Because of the decision to ship the concentrates south, it has been found necessary to confine the smelting unit of the plant to three furnaces, with an approximate monthly smelting output of from Maple Bay and the north end of Larcom Island to supply the flux necessary for smelting the ores treated. Dando of Stewart and Harold Blanton of Hyder, held in the Hotel Stewart Hall. (Notice, tho report says tha contest waa held in the Opera House.) The report was evidently aent in to tho paper from here, as it car- riea a Stewart data line, and published in good faith, but it arouses the merry ha-ha among thoae who were at the ringside. For the benefit of those who did not see the copy of the Prince Rupert News, the story ia here re-publiahed: "On August 16 in the Opera House here, an eight round bout waa staged between Young Dando and Harold Blanton of Hyder, tho latter being given the judgea' decision by a narrow margin. "The boys were evenly matched and the contest went the full distance. In the third round Dando had hia opponent in distress, and had he followed up the advantage he had at that time hia opponent would likely have hit the boards. From this round on both boxers mixed thinga with Dando going strong and Blanton apparently tiring. Dando scored several timet with clean, straight lefts to tho face, while Blanton waa content to swing wild with many clinchea resulting. Dando waa pushed to the ropes and forced to cover several timet. "Blanton waa given tht dt- cition though thia waa not approved by a majority of the spectators, who would have favored a draw."
