Here is an opportunity of putting the Portland Canal distriot still more on the map. Everything possible should be done to the end of assuring that he pays Hyder and the district as a whole a visit. The time to get busy is now, and every section of the district on both sides of the line should lend every support possible to any'move that has such an object in view. IN 1921,212 people were murdered in Cook county, Illinois. Cook county has a population of roughly 3,000,000. The same year only 57 people were murdered in Canada, population 8,788,883; and only 74 in England, population 35,678,530. England leads the world in crime prevention and eonviction. Canada, with British traditions of justice, follows a close second. Just what connection, if any, John Bull's beef and 'arf and 'arf has with mental balance in regard to criminals and his respect to human life and justice, might make an interesting study.
