Eighteenth Annual Report of the Milk Board For the Year Ended December 31, 1963 This Report of the Milk Board is made in accordance with section 56 of the Milk Industry Act and covers the calendar year ended December 31, 1963. Tables giving up-to-date statistical information relative to the production and utilization of qualifying milk, to accounting values for each class of qualifying milk, to producer prices for qualifying milk, to sales of fresh fluid dairy products, and to dairy-feed prices are appended hereto. LEGISLATION The Milk Industry Act Amendment Act, 1963, was passed at the 1963 Session of the Legislature. AREAS OF PRODUCTION Order in Council No. 1590/63, approved by His Honour the Lieutenant- Governor on June 21st, defined the East and West Kootenay area of production, and Order in Council No. 2624/63, approved by His Honour the Lieutenant- Governor on October 16th, defined the Cariboo and Central British Columbia area of production. With the addition of these two new areas, there are now five defined areas of production under Part III of the Act. Those previously defined are the Vancouver, the Vancouver Island, and the Kamloops-Okanagan areas. MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD There was not any change in the membership of the Board during the year. Members are Ernest C. Carr (Chairman), Walton J. Anderson, Ph.D., and John D. Honeyman. BOARD MEETINGS There were not any public hearings held during the year. The Board met 24 times in its office to deal with matters of policy and administration. Numerous conferences were also held with producers, vendors, and other interested parties to discuss matters pertaining to the production and marketing of milk. LICENSING Under the provisions of General Order No. 18, two classes of licences are issued by the Board. Vendors and milk jobbers are required to obtain a Class I licence, and producers a Class II licence. Both licences are issued for a period of 12 months, or portion thereof, ending on March 31st of the period in respect of which they are issued.
