In fact, such projections have been a central feature of the analysis of mixed finite element methods since the beginning of such analysis. However, a key difficulty is that, for most of the standard finite element spaces, the canonical projection operators based on the degrees of freedom require additional smoothness to be well--defined and thus are not bounded on the appropriate function spaces. More recently, bounded commuting projections have been constructed, but these lack a key property of the canonical projections; they are not locally defined. In this talk, we review the ideas behind the construction of bounded projections that commute with the exterior derivative and show how, using local operators defined on overlapping macroelements, it is possible to construct such operators that are also locally defined."@en ; edm:aggregatedCHO "https://circle.library.ubc.ca/rest/handle/2429/63964?expand=metadata"@en ; dcterms:extent "56 minutes"@en ; dc:format "video/mp4"@en ; skos:note ""@en, "Author affiliation: Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey"@en ; edm:isShownAt "10.14288/1.0361977"@en ; dcterms:language "eng"@en ; ns0:peerReviewStatus "Unreviewed"@en ; edm:provider "Vancouver : University of British Columbia Library"@en ; dcterms:publisher "Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery"@en ; dcterms:rights "Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International"@en ; ns0:rightsURI "http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"@en ; ns0:scholarLevel "Faculty"@en ; dcterms:isPartOf "BIRS Workshop Lecture Videos (Banff, Alta)"@en ; dcterms:subject "Mathematics"@en, "Numerical analysis"@en ; dcterms:title "Construction of bounded cochain projections and their role in the FE exterior calculus"@en ; dcterms:type "Moving Image"@en ; ns0:identifierURI "http://hdl.handle.net/2429/63964"@en .
