Statements have appeared from time to time in oflicial and semi-official papers to the effect that the Post Ollice Department intejuded to make such improvements in the Kootenay mail service as were necessary to keep pace with the rapid increase in population and business which has taken place there during the past year. Up to the present time, however, the public has had to be content with promises, lor nothing, has been done. As a consequence, business lias been retarded and more or less inconvenience suffered by an already long suffering public. An opportunity offered itself a little while iiro to better the existing conditions, which it was hoped was so good that even a blind man could see it. The announcement had been made several month ago by the Canadian PaciOc Railway Company that as a result of its acquisition of the boats of the Columbia to Kootenay Navigation Company, it would operate a daily^ service from Revelstoke to all points south in West Kootenay, instead of a tri-weekly seryice as before, the change to come into effect on June 1st.
