Since the golden days of '04 there has been more or less attention paid to East Kooteuay, more for its placers than quartz. It is only a short time, comparatively, since any attention has been paid to quartz mining but now the lime has arrived when, to'the quartz miner, must East Kootenay look for its wealth. The other resources of the Kootenay valley are limited, and the mines must be developed to a point of producing. When it i.s considered that I here are no producing mines on the east side.of the Kootenay. the necessity for greater effort, than has yet been made, becomes apparent. There, are a large number of claims upon which more or less work has been done bid two. however, can be said to be in a position to ship ore, and upon these a vast amount of work- has been done to demonstrate their capabilities in that direction. Several other claims are being systematically developed in order to 'bring them tip to a point of 'being mined for profit. Thosejire the exceptions, while hundreds of claims with excellent surface showing are lying idle/probably for want of funds to go on with development work.
