Fully one hundred men
will be employed on this line between Cascade and Phoenix within
the next month. The right of way
will be all cleared to the Granby
smelter in three weeks' time. This
power line will carry a greater voltage than any other power system in
Canada.
The Kettle Valley line depot, in
the Ruckle addition, was robbed
some time Tuesday night or early
Wednesday morning. Agent Hall
states that the amount of cash stolen
is in tbe neighborhood of $700. Receipts and other papers were also
taken.
The robbery was not discovered
until about 11 o'clook Wednesday
morning, as Agent A. B. Hall aeted
as brakeman on the excursion 'train
to Republic on Tuesday. lie stayed
for the dance in that city that night,
and returned home on the' regular
train the next day. When he
reached the station he found the
windows open. The door ,6f the
sife had been opened by using the
combination.
The reason why so much cash happened to be in the safe at the time,
is explained by the fact that the
road has been very busy running
excursion trains during the
week. Agent Hall has acted al
brakeman on these trains, and dii#]
not find time to bank the money
Besides, it was considered perfectly
u„f„ in 4L„ i...:i.i:„„ ii*_i*Vu^.u''2l'
safe in the building. Employees
road state that they saw the agent
close and lock the safe before the
train left Tuesday morning, and
that the doors of the building were
all properly locked.
Up to the present time there is no
clue as to the perpetrators of the
robbery, although the fact of the safe
having been opened by the combination leads to the surmise that it
must have been done by some .person or persons well acquainted with
the premises. Provincial Constable
I. A. Dinsmore is working on the
case. He states that seven or eight
persons have been missing from the
city since the robbery/' ",
The depot is located in a secluded
spot outside the limits, and the robbers had no difficulty in doing their
work undisturbed and making good
their escape.
Power Line Right of Way
W. B. Townsend, of Rossland,
who is the right of way agent for thc
I** Went Kootenay Power & Light com
pany, was in tho city Inst Wednesday. Mr. Townsend stated that his
company is constructing a double
pole line, with a 99-foot right of
way, from Bonnington Falls via
Silica on Sheep creek near Rossland,
and thence by the Velvet-Poitland
group of mines, situated on Sophie
mountain. From thence it proceeds in a straight line to Cascade,
intersecting the Dewdney trail at
various points. From Cascade it
follows on the north side of Kettle
riyer to a point two and a half miles
east of this city; thence it ascends
Morriss-ey creek, passing over a low
summit to the smelter draw, and
from this point to the Granby smel-
p ter. From there it follows the sinu-
BOUNDARY MINING NEWS
Robert Clark, of the Seattle mine,
reports that an ore body has been
struck in the 340-foot tunnel which
has been run on that property.
