Professor Le Neve Foster then suggested to\ntbe British government that the saw\nbe tested in North Wales, and the experiments which followed that slate\nmight be quarried by tbis new method\nwith conspicuous advantages, among\nthem being a large reduction in tbe\ncost of working, ot explosives and of\nremoving rubbish, less blasting, Iras\nwaste oi good rock, and no need 01\nquarrying worthless rock in underground working.\nA similar wire saw has been used\nfor some time in Belgium and Italy,\nfor the purpose of quarrying marble.\nIt is an endless cord composed of\nthree bard wires twisted togetberl\nwhich is made to travel aloug by machinery and is fed continuously with\n\u00E2\u0096\u00A0and and water, the sharp particles of\n\u00E2\u0080\u00A2and gradually cutting a groove: As\nthe groove is deepeued the cord must\nnecessarily be kept applied to tbe\nrock.
