School, a Spokane mining man, has devised a new method of making concrete ships in which the war department is so keenly interested that it has sent for him and his architect to come, to Washington at once. It now takes two or three weeks and from 150 to 250 men to build the form into which the concrete is poured for a vessel of this construction. It takes several days to tear it away after the vessel is built and the work 'has to be done over again for the next ship. Mr. School has invented a form which, it is claimed, can be put up in a day and taken down in a day and used for the next vessel. '1000 added feet of waterfront adjoining its plant with the idea of doubling\" the capacity of its yard. The announcement was made by Bayley Hipkins, Pacific Coast manager of the company. \"It is planned to devote the new space to steel ship construction,\" said Mr. Hipkins. \"If this materializes, Tacoma will have a 20-way steel and wooden shipyard. It is planned to build up a community about the Foundation yard with homes for workmen and business places to serve them.\" Two new ways will be added also at the plant of the Todd Drydock & Construction Company and extensions will be made to the big steel shed.
