NEWSPAPERS\nVolume 2, Number 1\nParking.\nby Derek K. Miller\nAs most of you may have discovered by\nnow, parking at UBC is in utter chaos.\nThat, of course, is normal, but the chaos\nthis year seems to be leaning further\ntowards total anarchy than usual, as I am\nsure anyone who has to deal with B-lot\nknows.\nWe seem to have become resigned to the\nquarter-a-time parking arrangement in\nB-lot, but the first week of the new school\nyear has brought about another problem:\nthe lack of enough B-lot to go around.\nYes, folks, B-lot is quite often full, all the\nway to the gravel lots out near the edges\nof the Earth, and frequently by 9:30 in\nthe morning. Why is this so?\nFirst, TeleReg has somehow (although it\nis \"theoretically\" impossible) over-\nregistered a lot of people, or so it seems,\nsince extra lab sections have had to be\ncreated to accommodate all of the newcomers. These people are taking up parking space. Second, BC Transit has done\nsome injudicious fiddling with their service to UBC, including less frequently-\nrun trolley buses, \"express\" buses which\nskip by those living near the University,\nand rerouting of buses formerly destined\nfor UBC to SkyTrain, which doesn't head\nout this way. Students are electing to\ntake their cars rather than face being late\nbecause of too many full buses, especially since there is no UBC student discount\non fares.\nWhat can we do about it? Not very much\nexcept protest and make people aware\nthat things are getting worse. Maybe I'll\njust start; walking from Burnaby.\nWednesday, September 14, 1988\nGuess what happens if you CANT park in B-lot?\n[>/HY /OOlOGhlS NIVtR I AT r>US\\\\nThe432\nPage 1\nSeptember 14,1988 W e I c\nB a\no m e\nc k\nby Derek K. In order to\nfacilitate the addition of\nair bands to the roster and\nto allow each air band to\nperform more than once,\nthe time for the air band\nportion of the evening has\nbeen expanded. There\nwill be an entry fee for\nbands and substantial\ncash prizes will be won by\nthe best teams. So start\ngetting organized! Songs\nshould be short (less than\nfive minutes - this means\nno renditions of \"In a\nGadda da Vida\" or\n\"Tubular Bells\"), and\nentries creative.
