This defence\nis in the face of Mr. Green's efface-\nment because of his connection with\nthe Kaien Island deal. For once\nMr. Hawthornthwaite is not in accord with his Premier and leader.\n\u00E2\u0080\u0094World. I\nBob Green died of political gangrene, the disease which is now\ngnawing away at the remnant of\nthe McBcBride administration. Had\nGreen been put in quarantine a\nyear ago some hope of the McBride\nadministration might have been entertained, but now an ignominious\njro'mb awaits them on Feb. 2nd.\nAlas! poor Green, a bleedling\nmartyr for the great god of graft\nand a warning to all political bood-\nlers.\nSpeaking in Vaucouver, on the\nevening of Jan. 9th, Mr. Mclnnis\nreferred to the Conservative rumor\nthat he was working for the leadership of the Liberals, and in no uncertain manner dispelled that campaign lie. He said: ''These gentlemen (the Conservatives) express\ngrave fears of a conflict between\nMr. Macdonald and myself. I can\nassure them and all Liberals as\nwell that there is no such conflict.\nI am Mr. Macdonald's lieutenant.\nI am proud to work under his directions and I will be proud to become a Cabinet Minister under\nhim.\" Continuing, Mr. Mclnnis\nsaid: \"The Tories wonder why I\nquit a $12,000 job to accept a $4,800\none. I wonder why Bob Green resigned a $4,800 position to accept\u00E2\u0080\u0094\nnothing. Stranger than ever\u00E2\u0080\u0094\nwhere is Wilson. He was a Cabinet Minister. Macdonald, Liberal leader, says: \"Those who have had\nthe privilege of hearing Mr. Macdonald on the floor of the Legislature will not dispute the statement\nthat as a debater he ranks as the\npeer of any public man who has\never occupied a seat in the House.\nIt is true the leader of the Opposition is \"not an orator as McBride\nis\"\u00E2\u0080\u0094be does not rant and ramp and\nroar and smite his desk in the\n\"mock heroics of declamation.\" In\nstyle he is calm, cool, logical, precise and convincing. What hesays\nis not forgotten immediately the\nsound of the words dies away. It\nstays with the auditor and by the\nvery force of its reasoning convinces\nhim of the sincerity of the speaker\nand the soundness of the cause he\nadvocates.
