M.\nV Shrum, under date of December 17th, giving a statement of\n; the work of the Committee on Military Education in refer-\nence to the organization of compulsory Military Training\n\u00C2\u00BB and reporting on the action of a Sub-Committee of the\nCommittee on Military Education which had been appointed\nto consider applications for exemption. The report con-\n^ ^P tained, also, a statistical summary of enlistments. 808\nWednesday, December 18th, 1940\nMr. Soward)\nDr. Warren) That the report be received for\ninformation, and that Senate,\nthrough the Secretary, express to\nthe Officer Commanding, C.O.T.C.,\nthe thanks and appreciation of\nSenate for the work that has been\ndone so efficiently in the organization of Military Training.\nCarried\nA report was received from the Committee appointed to\ntake charge of the acknowledgement of decorations and distinctions and the sending out of notes of congratulation\nto University students and graduates receiving decorations\nduring the War.\nDr. Sage )\nMr. A. E. Lord) That the report be received as\na progress report.\nCarried\nA letter from the President, under date of December\n16th was read, in reference to a proposed course in Air\nRaid Precautions and Allied Work, to be offered at the\nUniversity, for members of the Fire and Police Departments\nof Vancouver and vicinity. A report on the plan of the\nproposed course, it was stated, would be submitted to\nSenate at a later meeting.\nThe letter was received for information.\nA request was received from The Anglican Theological\nCollege and Union College that the statute concerning Religious Knowledge Options (Note 1, Page 78, Calendar 1940-\n41) be amended to the effect that the privilege of taking 809\nWednesday, December 18th, 1940.\nReligious Knowledge Options for credit, which is now\nlimited to students who have expressed their intention of\ngraduating in Theology, be opened to any student in the\nArts course.\nDr. Brown )\nDr. Trumpour) That the petition be referred to\nthe Faculties for consideration\nand report.\nCarried\nThe Chairman expressed his appreciation of the\nspirit of co-operation and good will which had characterized the work of the Senate during the year, and extended\nto the members of Senate best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.\nDr. Trumpour and Mr. A.
