Sisterhood.\nThe Faculty of Arts and Science recommends\nthe acceptance of a prize of $25.00, donated by\nChapter 'C of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, for women of\nthe First Year in Arts, to be awarded on the basis\nof essays on an assigned subject, and the insertion\nin the Calendar of the following statement:\nPRIZE OFFERED BY CHAPTER \u00C2\u00BB0\u00C2\u00BB. P.E.0.SISTERHOOD\nThis Prize, of the value of $25.00, given by\nChapter 'C of the P.E.0.Sisterhood, will be awarded\nto the woman student of the First Year in Arts who\npresents the best essay on an assigned subject,\nselected by the Department of English, subject to the\napproval of Chapter 'Cf of the P.E.0.Sisterhood. Parried\n707 Reports of Committees\nDr. Archibald, on behalf of the Committee on\nCurriculum and Calendar, reported that the calendar for\nthe Summer Session was approved by the Committee and\nprinted, and that the University Calendar was also\napproved by the Committee and eventually printed. This\nstatement was made for the information of Senate.\nThe Committee appointed to complete details\nof examination results submitted a detailed report showing\nthe standing of those students whose standing had not\nbeen determined at the meeting of Senate in May.\nPrincipal Vance)\nMr. Boving ) That the report be adopted.\nCarried\n708 Report of Senate Committee on Prizes, Scholar\nships, Bursaries, and Student Loans, -\n1. Carried\nThe report was considered clause by clause.\nThe clause dealing with the functions of the Board in\nreference to the limits of work and text books, etc., was\namended to read \"The Board shall have advisory function,\netc.1*.\nThe report, as amended, is as follows: (291?)\nWednesday, October 18th, 1922\n713 THE HIGH SCHOOL A:TD UNIVERSITY MATRICULATION\nBOARD OF BRITISH COLUMBIA\n 0Oo\t\nAGREEMEN T \u00E2\u0080\u00A2\nbetween\nTHE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA\nand\nTHE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT\nre Matrioulation\nThe Matriculation Examinations shall be conducted by a Board to be known as The High School and\nUniversity Matriculation Board of British Columbia.\nThis Board shall consist of the Superintendent\nof Education, the Registrar of the University, and an\nequal number of representatives of the Education Department and of the University, the number each year to be\ndetermined by the Superintendent of Education. The\nnumber of appointed representatives of the University\nshall not be less than eight.\nThe nominees of the University and the\nrepresentatives of the Education Department shall be\nappointed by ^ Counoil of Public Instruction.\nthe.\nThe Superintendent of Education shall, ex\nofficio, be Chairman of the Board, and one of the High\nSohool Inspectors, Seoretary and Registrar of the Board.\nThe arrangements for the examinations (the\nappointment of the supervisors, the remuneration of the\nMembers of the Board, etc.) shall be entirely in the\nhands of the Education Department.\nThe candidates shall make application to the\nDepartment for examinations.\nFtes, if any, shall be paid to the Education\nDepartment.\nWhen the marks have been assembled and\ntabulated, the returns shall be prepared by the Board in (298)\nWednesday, October 18th, 1922.\nquadruplicate and the Board and the Department, the\nUniversity, the Board of Sohool Trustees, and the\nPrincipals shall be furnished with copies.\nAll certificates shall be issued by the Board\nunder its formal title.\nAll applications for adjustments, concessions,\nre-readings, etc., shall be made to the Seoretary of the\nBoard.\nAll members of the Board shall hold office until\ntheir suooessors are appointed. The Board shall have\nadvisory functions in reference to limits of work prescribed in the various subjects, the text books to be\nused, and such other matters as may in any way affect the\npreparation of candidates for the Matriculation examinations,\nPapers for the September supplemental exam-:\ninations shall be prepared at the same time as the papers\nfor the June examinations. When marks have been assembled\nand tabulated, the returns shall be prepared in duplicate\nand both Department and University shall be furnished with\ncopies.\nIt shall be understood that students who have\nbeen barred through sickness or by reason of any other\ndisability from writing on the examinations in June, if the\nreasons submitted by them are satisfactory to the\nSuperintendent of Education, shall have the privilege of\nwriting the whole' examination in September.\nDr. Buchanan)\nMr. Argue ) That the report as a whole\nas amended be adopted. Oarried\n714 A communication from the Vancouver Sun was\nread protesting against the manner in which University\nSpring Examination results were released to the Vancouver\npapers and urging the claim that all examination results\nshould first be published In the Sun and then in the\nevening papers.
