Moore
An old idea has recently been
applied in exploiting a new /old
separator called the "Wyoming
Amalgamator." The inventors
or promotors claim for this apparatus much higher recoveries
than can be procured by the old
plate amalgamation, The new
device was on exhibition at the
Northwest Mining Convention recently held at Spokane, Washington. There the exhibitors stated
that it had not yet been installed
in actual permanent practice at
any working property, but that
in experiment with certain Ore-
gan ores the extraction amounted
to about 95 per cent, of the total
gold content.
The main principal is the utilization of the worm principal for
feeding the pulp under the volume of mercury in the form of a
thin ribbon. Thence it must rise
to the top, and during this action
the claim is that all the free clean
gold must come into contact with
the mercury while any rusty or
greasy gold on account of the
heavier specific gravity remains
in or falls to the bottom of the.
bottom of the mercury. The
tailings are then carried away
from the top of the mercury bed
by means of water under 20 lb.
presure forced downward upon
the same by means of a circular
ring of vertical pipes. From the
launder the mixture of water and
tailings is run through a series
of riffles, where it is stated that
all "flour mercury or black sand
is recovered." As is apparent
there is an elimination of unnecessary agitation or vibration
during the process of feeding and
in the mercury bed.
The idea appears to be a good
one at first glance, although practical demonstration under different conditions may expose weaknesses. But, perhaps, if snch be
encountered the may be gradually eliminated by simple variations
in the details of construction and
operation. Doubtless the trouble
due to fouling of the mercury
pertains to this as to every other
method.
The machine is compact, and
one of the weight of 400 pounds
is said to be capable of treating
25 tons daily of crushed pulp, or
of a larger quantity of placer bar.
The parts are easy of transportation over pack trail and they
can be readilv assembled.
To quote the pamphlet issued
by the promotors the advantages
are:
1st. Its superior ability in pan
or pot amalgamation over plates;
2nd, The principle of retaining
rusty or greasy gold by taking advantage of its specific gravity
over all other matter that could
not possibly be caught in plate a-
malgamation; 3rd. The cost of
operation; no high-salaried man
to operate; just install and run
like a clock with other machinery,
as it works automatically; 4th.
No danger of over-head grease er
oil. a. the contact is made under
the mercury surface grease must
stay on top; no eating through of
verdigris from eopper in plates;
5th. Complete control at all times
of tailings with ability to deliver
same in any manner on or to concentrate tables; 6th. The most
dominant and absolute, positively
no slimes on sliming; 7th. With
the Wyoming Amalgamator the
loss of mercury is practically eliminated.—Mine, Quarry & Derritk /'.
THE PROSPECTOR
THE PROSPECTOR.
Published in the interest cf Lillooet District.
A. To
my mind the most striking feature of the situation is still the
the general absence of vindic-
tiveness or even contempt for the
German people. Englishmen are
joining the colors by the hundred
thousand, but not in the "jingo"
spirit. You will perhaps remember the type of man one meets
so frequently in Lancashire and
Yorkshire—the old Puritan type
—the man who goes to his work
with the sense of duty dominan,
doing his work thoroughly, not
necessarily because he likes it,
but because the job is to be done.
But few or none like the job, but
the job is there to be done.
It appears to be beyond the
mental powers of a German to
understand this. To him, apparently, war is part of his religion
or it is nothing. He cannot understand that a nation should go
to war because it is part of its
religion to destroy the worshipers of Mars, the war god. It is
WATER NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the Pacific
Great Eastern Railway Company of
Victoria, B.C. will apply for a licence
to take and use One Hundred Thousand
Gallons (Imperial) Per Day of water
out of the Fraser River which flows in
a southerly and westerly direction
through the Province of British Columbia, and empties into the Gulf of
Georgia, near New Westminister, B.C.
The water will be diverted from Wells
Located Between High and Low Water
Marks About Eight Hundred (8oo) Feet
South of the North East Corner of Lot
Six Hundred and Seven (6o7) Lillooet
District, and will be used for Railway
purposes on the land described as the
righi of way of The Pacific Great Eastern Railway.
This notice was posted on the ground
on the 23rd day of March, 1915.
The application will be filed in the
office of the Water Recorder at Clinton, B.C.
Objections may be filed with the said
Water Recorder or with the Comptroller of Water Rights, Parliament Buildings, Victoria, B.C.
Pacific Great Eastern Railway
Company, Applicant,
by (Sgd.) C. R. Crysdale, Agent.
This notice first appeared in the Prospector on the 2nd day of April, 1915.
fortunate for Germany that England is not war mad, for if ever
the fighting blood of the country
were really stricken with the lust
for German blood, then God help
the Germans. Personally, I am
praying that the Germans will
have sense enough not to repeat
such escapades as the attack on
Scarborough.
Behind this grim struggle Englishmen have not lost the feeling
that German flesh and blood are
still human, and, therefore, they
do no wish to inflict more suffering on German women and children than is necessary. For
years the Germans have been
mistaking English patience for
weakness and decadence. Now
they must be compelled to listen.
If you hear that England is determined to crush Germany beyond redemption treat the report
with contempt. We cannot crush
seventy millions of people except
at an enormous cost, nor would it
pay. The enemy is not Germany,
but autocracy.
DECLINE SUBSTITUTES"@en .
