The\nattendance was not large, but occasion was taken to go rather fully\ninto matters affecting the Association. Feeling reference was made to\nthe death of L. Crippen, one of the\nDirectors of the Association who fell\nat tbe front. The meeting was presided over by the President, A. J.\nPrudhomme.\nA. J. Prudhomme, the President,\nsaid that in spite of the fact that\nthis was not a good year for a Fair\nin many ways, but in spite of this the\nFair was proving a great success. The\nexhibits had increased and farmers\nwere realizing tbat a good quality of\nproducts was needed. He felt\nthat the transportation companies\nshould give free transportation of\nexhibits. This they had not been able\nto do. He felt that the thanks of\nthe Association was due to the press\nof the city and the district for publicity given.\nM. M Stephens being called upon,\nsaid that he felt it would be more\nprofitable to hear from farmers who\nwere present. The Fair had been\nan unqualified success in spite of\nthe conditions. No small share- of\npraise for the success was due to the\nPresident.\nAustin Rich -rdson, of Laun Hill,\nfelt that it would be wise to have a\ncompetition for vegetables alone.\nThis would give a chance to new\ndistricts that had not the grain to\nexhibit.\nThe President felt that this would\nright itself as more money was available for this.\nMr. Jorgenson, of Prince George,\nsaid he was impressed with the excellent building and the good arrangements for placing the exhibits.\nHe was very much surprised at the\nFair. He hoped to be here next\nyear for the Fair. It was an ex\npensive matter of bringing exhibits\nhere. He had farmed iu Denmark,\nNew Jersey, Wisconsin, Washington\nand Britisii Columbia. He had,never\nseen exhibits of better quality than\nhe saw in Northern B. C. It was his\nfirst visit to Prince Rupert and he\nthought the city was to be complimented upon the splendid conditions\nthat prevailed. When he went back\nto Prince George he was going to\nadvocate a city market there.\nMr. Evans, of Remo, excused himself from speaking from being a new-\nworker.\nW. E. Collison complimented the\nAssociation upon the Fair. He\nthought attention should be given to\nthe rates for shipment to Prince Rupert. As a fish city the exhibit in\nthat line should be on a much larger\nscale.\nWhen it came to the nomination\nfor President, Mr. Prudhomme was\nnominated.\nHe declined this honor, stating\nthat he felt that after three years\nservice on the Board, he would like\nto retire from the position.\nMr. Stephens urged that Mr.\nPrudhomme should continue in the\noffice. In no small way the indefatigable work of Mr. Prudhomme\nhad contributed to the success of the\ninstitution.\nAid. Edge agreed with this.\nThe President further declined,\nbut by a unanimous vote he was reelected and accepted the office.\nThe other officers were elected as\nfollows: Vice-Pres., George Frizzell;\nSecretary, F. S. Wright; Treasurer,\nM. M. Stephens; Directors, Rev. XV,\nE. Collison, XV. P. Lynch, G. R. Naden, D. G. Stewart and Aid. Tomlinson said the results\nof the Exhibition far exceeded any-\nting that had been expected, The\ngrain showing augured well for the\nfuture of the interior territory. The\ngrain exhibits gave promise of what\nwould be the result when fully developed. There should be a great\nstock country. In oilier lines, as in\nvegetables, lhe exhibits were splendid. Experience was needed In these\nlines. He hoped the Fair would tend\nto bring the producer anil the consumer together and also the producer and the wholesaler. Growers\nwould in some Instances have to\nlearn how to sort their produce,\nMr. Walker sain that about three\nhours were spent on deciding upon\nthe district exhibit. The Fair this\nyear was better than last year's. He\nthought that a score card should be\nplaced In the prize list, so that the\ndistrict exhibits might be arranged\non the basis.
