Johnson were walking along the bank of the Skeena\nriver they found the body of a man\nof foreign birth, but nationality\nunknown, lying in the water, close\nto tho bank, the police were notified\nand on investigation the following\narticles were found in the deceased\npockets. An agreement No. 112,\ndated, Vancouver, May 17, 1909,\nsigned T. Duffy and issued by H.\nAllan & Alex Calder; a letter\nwhich nobody in the vicinity\ncould read, and a half ticket\ndated for June. Deceased arrived\non the Rupert City sometime in\nJune.\nDr. Wilson, coroner, stated that\nthe body had apparently be in tho\nwater some 8 or 9 days.\nUp to the time of going to press\nno further cnlightment has been\nreceived, as to who the deeeasd\nwas.\nA Fatal Accident at Aberdeen\nA fatal accident has just occurred in T. limine & Co's cam])\njust outside Aberdeen. Whilst a\nSwede, his name, at present to us\nunknown, was drilling between two\nlargi; boulders, for the purpose of\nblasting them, they, without the\nleast warning, suddenly caved in\ncrushing him to death. The body\nwas conveyed to Prince Rupert.\nFatal Colliery Accident\nAnother fatal accident has occurred at the Extension mines of\nthe Wellington Colliery Company\nat Nanaimo, whereby a man named E. Armstrong was killed and\nhis brother John and another mini\nnamed 1). Campbell were both injured. SPORT\nTWENTY MILES TOO LONG\nFOR ALFRED SHRUBB\nHis Ankle Gives Out\nIt was before a wildly enthusiastic crowd of 12,000 people that Tom\nLongboat defeated Alfred Shrubb\nin the twenty-mile race at Hanlon's\nPoint, Toronto.\nThe Englishman quit in the\nfifteenth mile after limping badly\nfor three laps; he claimed that his\nold sprained ankle bothered him\nLongboat jogged the remaining\ndistance and finished in 2:02-10.\nThe track was a quarter mile one.\nSlfruub set a hot pace at the start\nand gained half a lap in the third\nmile, at live miles he led by 100\nyards, and by a lap at the seventh\nmile. At the ninth mile the positions were unchanged. Shrubb\nsprinted but could not shake off\nthe Indian. Twelve miles saw\nShrubb still a lap to the good, but\nboth men were fresh.\nOn the thirteenth mile Shrubb\nagain tried sprinting, but every\ntime he sprinted Longboat did the\nsame. Shrubb began to show\nsigns of distress, but still held the\nlead, doing the fourteenth mile in\n1:18:29.\nAfter running the fourteenth\nmile, Shrubb sprinted, trying to\ncoax Longboat on; then Longboat\nsprinted and took the lead, gaining\nhalf a lap.
