G, Dec. 12.-According to a wire received by Mr. H. E.\nBodiae of Jedway, and now in this city,\nthe Federal company ha.-, decided to\nbond the Tangier group, situated on\nHuxley island, off the east coast of\nMoresby island, the principal of the\ngroup. The consideration will be $JiM,-\n0(H), with a 10 percent peymenl in cash\non signing the papers, and the Laiance\nin payments extending over a period of\n18 months.\nThe proposition comprises four claims.\nIt wn.-i recently examined by Mr. C. S.\nChisholm, a mining expert of the Standard Oil people. He is now in Spokane,\nwhere he assayed numerous samples of\nore taken from the leads on the surface.\nThe group, according to Mr. Bodine,\nwho staked it five months ago, has a\nvein of free milling gold ore, with a\nwidth of 40 feet, and giving average\nassay values of $5 per ton. Running\nthrough the vein are numerous rich\nstringers from two to five inches wide\nand giving assay returns as high as\n$10,000 per ton. The vein can be traced\nacross the island, which is only twelve\nmiles distant from Jedway. Mr. Bodine\nmade big money this summer by reducing the ore with a pestle and mortar.\nHe only treated the ore in which the\nfree gold was visible.\nAn 80-foot vein of copper ore also\ntraverses the group. It averages 7 per\ncent in copper, with gold values of from\n$1 to $3 per ton. Mr. Bodine regards\nthe copper showing as equally valuable\nas the free-milling proposition. His\npartners are Messrs. A. J. Ross, John\nAverill and Joseph Davis, all of Skidegate. Mr. Bodine anticipates that the\nFederal company will carry out development work immediately on an extensive scale. He anticipates the erection\nof a copper smelter and a stamp mill\nfor treating the two varieties of ore.\nMr. Bodine has also bonded another\nproposition, the Copper King group of\nthree claims, to Mr. J. Wolffshon, local\nGerman Imperial consul, and Mr. E. F.\nGirling, of this city. The bond of $160,-\n000 is to run two years, and the cash\nconsideration was $3,000, representing\nthe first payment. The properties adjoin the well known \" Swede \" group,\nwhich is situated on the east coast of\nMoresby island, 40 miles from Jedway.\nThe lead is stated to have a width of 126\nfeet, with average values of 3 per cent\ncopper and gold values of $3 per ton.\nIt has the same identical showing as\nthat on the adjacent Swede group, also\nrecently bonded by the same people and\nfor the seme figure.\nABOLISH LICENSE DISTRICT.\ning to the R.
