C. are more than satisfied with\n-\"Better Terms Dick\" on the job.\nDuring the past winter arid spring\n*'$he city of Vancouver has had her\nown troubles with hordes of unemployed men, and for a time hundreds\nwere fed and housed by the city.\nThe majority of these men were\nhonest laborers who came from the\neast and from the old country expecting to grab high assaying jobs\nas soon as they landed in the much\nadvertised Terminal City, the situation at the coast being grossly\nmisrepresented by immigration and\nrailway grafters; others were hobos,\nwho wouldn't labor except on a\nchain-gang, and continually worked\nthe sad, sad tale for two-bit handouts and butted around the cheap\nbars for free booze; others, again\nwere hold-up artists and other desperados from over the boundary,\nwho took advantage of the strenuous times to rob respectable citizens\nand cause the local dailies to squirt\nhot metal at the police force. Now,\nhowever, the situation is much relieved.- Hundreds of men were\ntaken up to the Prince Rupert dis\ntrict during the past three months\n.for grading and construction work\nand this week comes word that be\ntween three and six hundred men\nwill be hired at Vancouver within\nthe next few days to work on the\nGuggenheim ditches and flumes in\nthe Klondike during the present\nsummer. E.
