The
former was considerably under the
influence of liquor, and the evidence
went to show that while in that
condition he was a most exasperating man and it was hard to subdue
him.
McCalla resented the verbal attacks of Ethier, but the latter persisted and the men had high words
until those standing around feared
serious trouble and endeavored to
get the two separated. They were
however unsuccessful in their
efforts.
Things reached a ciimax when
McCalla drew a gun and fired two
shots. Until this is done the resolution urges Methodists not to permit their sons to enlist.
During the coming summer the
Department of L,ands and Works
will take elaborate measures for the
protection of forests from fire. The
staff of deputy wardens, which
numbered twenty-three last summer, will be greatly increased.
Duncan Ross made a bad break
when he rushed into the breach to
defend Aylesworth's iniquitous election bill, a measure which would
make it possible for partisan appointees of the government to deprive citizens of British Columbia
of their franchise rights. If, as
Mr. Ross says, British Columbia
' 'provincial voters' lists are rotten''
what excuse will he give for failing
to point this out when he stumped
the provincial ridings in Yale Cariboo against the McBride government who were responsible for the
lists ?--Hedley Gazette.
It is not much wonder that Martin Burrell has won the confidence
and the esteem of the people of his
immediate home as well as those
of the whole district of Yale-Cariboo, for, whenever he speaks and
acts, no matter in what capacity, he
does so in such a way as to impress
his sterling qualities and striking
personality upon his audience. To
do this a man must have behind his
public utterances a reserve strength
and an inbred knowledge of his capacity, as well as an unshaken faith
in himself, in his cause, and in his
fellows.
These are the qualities that
strike one as most prominent in
Mr. Burrell's make-up.Walker's
Weekly, Enderby.
NOTICE.
Sixty days after date I intend to apply to the chief commissioner of lands
and works for permission to purchase
the following land for pastural purposes,
situated in the Kamloops division of
Yale district: Commencing at a post
planted at the northwest corner of preemption No. 306 on the east line of section 12, Township 89, thence north 40
chains, east 20 chains, south 20 chains,
west 20 chains to point of commencement, containing, 80 acres, more or
IfiSS.
Lower Nicola, April 10th, 1908.
R.
