Schmidt located\nand staked the tirst claim in the Aspen\nGrove camp. Tales of rich copper indi\ncations in the range of hills extending\nnorth and south from the Grove had for\nyear* been told in the sou'h country, hut\nit was not till 1899 thai prospectors began\nto give it any personal attention. After\nSchmidt's discovery, the country fairly\nswarmed with prospectors, until now\nevery indication bas been staked the\nlength and breadth of the rang*. Mr.\nSchmidt's original claim has proved to be\nof first rate indications. It is known a*\nthe Big Sioux.\nStarting at the *outhern end of the\nrange is the Little Sioui, owned by VV.,).\nMurray, showing copper glancn assaying\n2,'J per cent copper. Then comes thr\nBlack Forreit, owned by Angus McKay,\nwith good indications. D. J, Starwald also has claims in the vicinity ot the Little\nSioux. A. B. Kobberts ii also interested\nin properties in this section. On Bear\nMountain, in the range, are several claims\nfrom which some good ore has been taken\nout, these are owned by D. J. Stewart\nand Murray Brothers.\nOn the summit aud each side of Mouut\nMoriah is the Vancouver group, four\nflamis in all, with hist rate Bhowiugs of\ncopper glance, owned by J. P. Allen, Con\nMurphy lend William Augstead. The Red\nBird and Lcne Star groups consist ot sit\nclaims, and native copper and glance are\nfound in them. Tl ese groups are owned\nby Roberts, Budd and Alder*. T. A.\nRodgers and B. Osen own Calamity .lane\ngroup, with hue idications of gray and\nnative copper.\nOn the west side of Mount Moriah is\nthe Queen of Hearts group of live, owned\nby Frank Bailey and associates. This\ngroup shows gray and native cupper.\nNext to the Queen nf Hearts claim is\nthe Swede group, of three, with gray and\nnative cupper,\nEli Larson has a group of four claims,\nthe Hub, on which are good showings of\ngray copper,\nMessrs. Lowe and Brown own the Cop\nper Bell group of four claims, the Lot hie,\na group of three. It is on their property\nthat the biggest showing of amygdaloid in\nthe camp is found. Copper in na'ive and\nfree-milling quartz Is also found on these\ngroups.\nA. E. Howse and associates have a\ngroup of four good claims\nEastwood, Gladwin and Price Ellison,\nM. L. A. own the Copper Standard group\nuf five claims one of the best prospects\nin the camp.\nTh* Golden Gate and May Bell are ale\ngood prospects and are owned by VV. A.\nDodd and A. R. Carrington\nThe Tomcat group, consisting of two\nclaims and three fractions, was recently\nsold for 815,000.\nJ. E. Bate and associates own several\ngroups, in all fifty three claims. Perhaps\nthe best group in these holdings, and for\nthat matter in the camp, is the Golden\nSovereign, consisting of seven claims. On\nthis group a well defined ledge or native\ncopper has beeu discovered snd exposed\nfor over 400 feet of the length of the\ngroup. The claims have been staked on\nboth aides of the ledge ao aa to include\nthe irregularities of its cnuree.
