The discovery was made
by Eric Coursier Thursday morning
while walking out along the dam
where the steamer Kevelstoke is discharging rock, and was cuiiiiiinnicateil
immediately to the police who turned
the matter over to the provincial constable. Tho body, which was in an
advanced stste of decomposition, was
brought ashore and taken to Howson's
undertaking parlors. The evidence
showed that the deceased was known
iu Revelstoke and had worked in Mr.
Astle's gang on the new C. P. R. Columbia bridge here and laid off a few
days before he dissappeared, which
took place on Thursday, November 7,
1907. Further identification was made
by the peculiar crook of an arm which
was noticed by all who saw him last.
It appears that the deceased on the
day of his death last November had
been drinking heavily and was seen on
tbe bridge in au intoxicated condition
and was afterwards missed, and it was
supposed at the time that he overbalanced and loll into the river, although
there was no witness to prove it. In
all probability the unfortunate man
did fall into the river and lay drowned
undisturbed until tbe steamer RevelBtoke commenced operations and
churned the body up. Evidence proved
that the deceased was alive up till November the 7th, when the accident
occurred. The jury returned a verdict
identifying the body as tbat ol Edward
Riee, who came to his death from unknown causes. The remains were
buried yesterday.
BRIDGE COLLAPSED
Miraculous Escape of Engine
Crew and Passengers
Rossland, April 24.—An engine,
tender, flat freight oar and a box car,
attached to tbe passenger train, plunged through the first twin bridge across
Sheep Creek a short distance north ol
Sbeep Creek Falls on Monday morning
at 10:30 o'clock, carrying down with
them J.
