Eagleson's new 50-horse\npower Stoddard-Dayton automobile arrived from Lytton on Saturday in charge of Dave Yule,\nand proved herself capable of\nclimbing the steepest grades on\nthe road with comparative ease.\nThe car was taken to Ashcroft\nSunday where she will be used\non the trunk road to Cariboo.\nLocal and District Improvements\n'TH\nJ. S. Bell is improving his res-\ndence with a new fence and sidewalk. The work is being done\nby Mr. Barr.\nMessrs. Brett and Phair have\nfinished painting the Paul San-\ntina store and hall, which greatly\nimproves the appearance of Main\nstreet.\nAt the 19-mile\nci on the\nAshcroft road, owi ed by J. B.\nTiffin of Vancouver, [here has\nbeen planted 5C0O apple trees of\nthe varities best adapted to this\nsection.\nJ. Bell arrived Thursday from\nhis weekly trip to the Bridge\nriver road camps and reports\nthe work as progressing favorably.\nA new road camp has been\nmade at Antoine creek with\nabout 15 men for the purpose of\nimproving the trail to North Fork\nfrom Lillooet. Wagon road\nbridges have been built over the\ndifferent creeks and it will be but\na short time until the ranchers\nwill be able to drive to town in\nwagons.\nR. Clarke has secured the contract for building the new picket\nfence at the schoolhouse, and\nwill commence work as soon as\nthe material can be put on the\nground. This fence will be a\ngreat improvement to the appearance of the schoolhouse.\nThe first load of lumber to be\nused in the construction of the\nLillooet cottage hospital arrived\nin town Monday and actual building will be started in the near\nfuture by the contractors, Messrs\nDuguid & Page. The hospital\nsite is at the east end of town,\nand when the building is finished\nwill be a credit to the town.\nR. P. Bishop. B. C. Land Surveyor of Victoria, arrived on Friday last with his party of men.\nOn Monday they completed the\nsurvey of Harry O'Donaghey's\npre-emption at eleven mile and\nleft on Tuesday's boat for Pemberton Meadows where they will\nbe engaged surveying a large\nnumber of ranches for the next\nsix weeks. On their return they\nwill be engaged locally for about\na month, when they will leave\nfor Fort George to finish the season up to Christmas.\nF. C. Swannell, P.L.S., of the\n: firm of Swannell & Noakes, and\na party composed of six men, left\non Saturday morning on a BX\n> special driven by Fred Nason.\nTheir destination will be the Ne-\nchaco valley and it is expected\nthat they will be busy surveying\nuntil after the first of the year.\nSee advertisement on last page.\nP. Doncaster, C.E., assistant\nengineer public works of Canada,\nof Kamloops, left for the Pemberton Meadows on Thursday,\nto examine the lower reaches of\nthe Lillooet river for the purpose\nof reducing the overflow at high\nwater, which will reclaim an extensive area of practically useless\nI land. Mr. Doncaster will be cm-\nployed the next few week's estimating the cost of the proposed\nundertaking.\nThe Howe Sound & Northern\nrailway company has madeappli-\n\u00E2\u0080\u00A2 cation to the Dominion Parliment\nto authorize the extension of its\nline into the Peace river country.\nAt the present time there is constructed about 12 miles north\nfrom Newport and its rights\ncarry it as far as Lillooet. The\ncompany also seeks the right to\nown and develop water rights,\nbuild and operate telegraph and\ntelephone lines, operate and own\nsteam and other vessels, own and\noperate elevators, wharves and\nwarehouses and for such powers\nand privileges as may be necessary to its undertaking.\nJ. M. Yorston of Alexandria,\nCariboo, arrived by Lytton stage\nSaturday and renewed old acquaintances on Sunday. He is at\npresent acting as census commissioner for Lillooet and Cariboo\ndistricts and spent the first of\nthe week in initiating the local\nenumerators in the intricatries\nof the census forms. A. Brett and J. C. Williams\nreturned Monday from a prospecting trip up Cayoosh creek\nand report a fine time and good\nresults. Mr. Williams left for\nthe coast Wednesday.\nA. F. Noel and H. J. Keary\nwere guests of John E. Johnson\non Sunday and inspected the Jes-\nperson Hydraulic leases on Cayoosh creek, now being developed\nby Messrs. Mellott and Johnson.\nH. J. Keary and H. L. Phair\nhave closed a deal for the\nmineral claim known as the\nSkukum. It is situated on Cadwallader creek adjoining the\nNellie and will undoubtedly prove\nitself worthy of the purchase.\nThe prospectors who have been\nup Cayoosh creek for the past\nweek are highly pleased with the\nresult of their investigations.\nMr. Davidson and son and Mr.\nCrane, all of Vancouver are working in the vicinity of the old\nBonanza mine and are elated\nover the prospects.\nG. D. Bell and Grant White intend to further develop their\nclaims between Tyoughton and\nGunn creeks, and in a short time\nwill open up the veins at different points to have a practical surface showing for the examining\nengineers when they arrive to\nlook at the property this summer.\nDevelopment is still going on\nat the Rhodes-Sunborn group of\nclaims on Seton lake owned by\nJohn Dunlop. Under the able\nmanagement of Will Haylmore a\ngood showing is being made and\nall the openings being placed in\nshape for examination of the ore\nbody. This property has had\nconsiderable development done\nupon it and the values are very\nencouraging.\nThe Spokane group of claims\nowned by Dr. Christie and\nsituated on Big creek, a tributary\nto the North Fork of Bridge river\nwill in all probability be surveyed\nin a short while. Extensive development work has already\nbeen done on this property and\none tunnel is in over 200 feet.\nThe object of this is to tap the\nvein, which will eventually give\nthem a depth of about 100 feet.\nThe assays are of a good value\nand this group is generally considered one of the best propositions in the 'Lillooet mining district.\nJAMES MURPHY, B. R. Eagleson and\nC. A. Phair.\nJoseph Shuster of Gunn creek\nranch left Wednesday morning\nwith ten head of steers. He was\naccompanied by Mose Taylor and\nPink Copeland. Joe has a fully\nequipped butcher shop at the\nranch and the steers will be used\nto accommadate the demand from\nthe various mining camps on\nCadwallader creek and Bridge\nriver. T.
