In fact the sports were so many
and varied that it took two days to
exhaust the programme. Everyone
seemed to be in a joyous and festive
humour and keen enjoyment beamed
from the faces of all. The climatical
conditions, as is generally the case in
1 .illooet; was all that could have been
desired, and even the most chronic
kicker was forced to keep mute. The
Pemberton Meadows brass band was
in attendance, and under the skilled
baton of Ignace Jacobs, Bandmaster, i
discoursed sweet music off and on the
live long days. The town was crowded with visitors, and our native sons i
with their wives and papooses largely
predominated. The Indian is a keen
sport and of all things he loves it is a
good horse race, and he had every opportunity of witnessing some good ones
this year. The credit of the success of
the celebration was largely due to the
untiring energy of Mr. Arthur Noel.
This gentleman was elected for the
onerous duty of collecting the funds.
No better man could have been chosen
for Arthur has a most persuasive manner and a most wonderful touch anil
success crowned his efforts. Where
everyone worked so hard forthe success
of the celebration it would be invidious
to specialize any one, but the thanks
of every one is due to Mr. F. A. Brewer of Vancouver, to the Judges and
starters, and last but not least to the.
active Secretary, H. J. Keary.
The programme of celebration was a
lengthy one and we can only record the
principal events, which are as follows:
SATURDAY
Lillooet stakes 1 mile and repeat—
1st Tyee Jimmy, horse Dr Scoof
2nd Willie Frank, horse Traveller
1-2 mile and repeat
Tyee Jimmy, Ready 1st; James
Dickie, Jimmie, 2nd; Willie Frank,
Dan Wing, 3rd.
Saddle horse race
James Dickey, Jimmy 1st.
Sandy Duguid. The
Pemberton boys brought down a good
team and lived up to their reputation
by putting up a strong game, and
a sturdy fight, playing a good passing game. The local boys although
handicaped by not having been able to
get together for practice, right from
the start, entered the game with a vim
not to be denied, playing the long passing game. The team lined up as follows: A. Brett goal; E. Drummond and
P. McMasters backs; L. I.oring, Scotty
and A. Smith half-backs; T. Hurley
and Rev. H. Pelham left wing; A. E.
Ludwig centre; R. ( larke and A. W.
Phair right wing. After considerable
mid-field play the local boys got the ball
and a pass from Scottie sent it on to the
right wing, the ball was swung from
wing to wing several times, and a break
for goal was made in fine style, eventually a pass from the wing was received
by the centre and successfully placed
between the uprights thus scoring the
only goal of the match. The Pemberton boys made things lively for a while
after this but the home defense proved
too strong for them and at time the
score remained 1 to nil. for Lillooet
The local boys far exceeded the expectations of all and are deserving of
considerable credit for their stickability
as the visitors termed it. A full attendance is requested as the disposal of the
surplus cash is one of the points
to be considered.
Jack Logan had the misfortune
on Monday to sever an artery in
his right wrist. It appears that
as he was letting down a window
on the Tiffin ranch, he slipped,
and thrust his hand through the
window. He was brought into
town by J. T.
