Railway Company that the\nsteamer Joan may be allowed to vialt\nLadysmith twice a week. The propoial\nis that tbe Joan continue to call at\nNanaimo four times a week, but to arrive aud depart from thil port on two\ndays, to be specified, each week, carry-\ning the mails, passengers and freight.\nTbii wonld mean much to Ladyimith,\nand would certainly be tbe forerunner\nof regular daily communication with the\nTerminal City. The deoiiion of the\nCompany is awaited with much interest.\nIt ia eaid in some quarters that some\nrearrangement of the train lervice\nmight be made to meet tha altered\nconditions. The Company it is expected\nwill be prepared to return an answer to\nthe Vancouver Board of Trade in the\ncourse oi a few dayi.\nAt No* 2 Extension.\nWith a plentiful supply of water and\nan uninterrupted flow into the elope the\nwork of Hooding No. 2 Ib proceeding as\nrapidly as can be expected. The stopping in the tunnel is holding well, and\nthe leakage is not enough to affect tbe\ncalculated results.\nProvided that no .interruption takes\nplace the mine should he filled as high\nas Ib necessary belore tbe end of the\npresent month. Tbe Herald,\nparticularly, at the time ol tun Extension calamities, surpassed even its own\nruffianly record, and published us fusts\nmere idle rumors without examination;\nit blackguarded Mr. Dunsmuir aud all\nthe officials as if it were being paid\nhandsomely out of some secret fund for\nIts abuse; it cited the Ooal Mines Regulation Aot, and bowled like a madman\nfor a thorongh enquiry into the causes\nleading up to the explosion and fire in\nNo. 2.\nBut this pattern newspaper baa not a\nsyllable to say about a disaster which\nmay have the must serious consequences\nfor Nanaimo. One of the Herald's mtiit\nrabid supporters remarked yesterday\nthat he hoped \"that damned, infernal\nLidyemltb paper would not get hold ol\nthelacta concerning the fire in Protection and No. 1.\" Did the fellow\nthink The Leader was like tbe Herald\naud Free Press, sound asleep and dead\nto tbe world?
