The\nwreck occurred at what is known as\ntheCahaba bridge, flfty miles from\nBirmingham, between Guerney and\nBlockton. The bridge is about 1,000\nfeet long and 90 to 100 feet high. The\ntrain jumped the track from some\ncause unknown, and plunged off the\ntrestle to the rocks below. As to the\nnumber of passengers on board, reports\nconflict, the best obtainable information placing the number at thirty to\nthirty-live. Seven were taken out\nalive, bnt in a dying condition.
