Smith, our popular Methodist missionary, who has been attending\nthe district meeting held at Vernon,\nreturned to Golden last Friday. A\nsuccessful meeting was held and a very\nprosperous year was reported. New\nmissfons were formed and old ones,\nwliere the work was too heavy tor the\nmissionaries, have been subdivided.\nTopics of interest were discussed and\nrecommendation made to tlie conference\nwhich, if earned into effect, will result\nin general good to this district. Wo\nlearn also that this section of British\nColumbia, known as the Okanagan\nvalley, is a very beautiful country. It is\nadapted to ranching, grain-raising aud\nfruit-gtowing. Tho valley at this season\npresents a very picturesque appearance\nto thc traveller, as fruit trees aro in full\nbloom and the grass is luxuriant. The;\nranchers in this section havo heretofore\nbeen very much discouraged on account\nof not having a ready market for their\nproduce, but a joint stock company has\nbeen formed to take over the products,\nwhich aro sold a reasonable figure, 80\nthat the farmer and rancher aro both In\na position of Independence. A lady has\nlieen brought here from some unknown\nsection who professes to havo supernatural power given to her and has by\nBomQ means or other gained the confidence of ^certain individuals who have\ngone in search of their brethren and\nbrought them to this place.
