Coroner Trew, of\nthis oity, held an inquest on the body\nyesterday afternoon, and from the\nevidence there given the following\nfacts are obtained: The murdered\nman lived by himself in a oabin abont\na quarter of a mile from his nearest\nneighbors and about fire or six miles\nfrom the Landing, On Friday last\nhe oame down to the Landing, pre\nsumably on business matters, and wu\naeen going home alone that afternoon\nfor tho last time alive. The fact uf\nthero being no stir around his cabiu.\nfor tho next two or three days, to-\nSether with the appearance of his little\nog at his neighbor's house, led them\nto decide all was not right; and after\nsome consultation among themselves,\ntwo of thom, Freund snd Lee, derided to go over and investigate. They\nfound the door locked with two padlocks, one inside the hasp and the\nother outside, and both\nFASTENED SECURELY\nin the staple. Stooping down, one of\nthem looked through a small opening\nin the bottom of the door and ssw the\nbody lying on the floor. They immediately set off in search of Constable\nGreen, who, returning with them,\nbroke down the door. They found\nHarris lying on the floor near the\nstove with a deep aie-cut in the back\nof his neck, another in tho throat, the\nhead being almost severed from the\nbody. There were alao two smaller\nwounds on the side nf the head, a\npart of the ear having been out off,\nBaok of the door stood an axe clogged\nwith blood and hair. No signs of any\nstruggle wero found, und it appeared\nthat the murderer had struck his victim while he waa in the act of putting\na atick of wood into the stove.
