Carried.\nCouncil then adjourned,\nTHE RECREATION BUILDING.\nLOCAL NEWS.\nRobert Johnson, of Marysville, was in Cranbrook, Friduj.\nHeld Meeting in Wentworth Hall\nCommittee Appointee to\nSecure Funds.\nA meeting In the interests of\nrecreation rooms wus held in\nWentworth hull on Monday evening of this week with His Worship Mayor Rogers In the chair.\nThe attendance was not large/\nbut a considerable amount of\ninterest was manifest Rev. J.\nP. Westman outlined a plan that\nhe had prepared for the erection\nof a suitable building. He has\nhad a number of years of experience in this work us director\nand instructor and showed clearly that ho hud the matter in\nhand. A number of questions\nwere put aud answered. Rev.\nW. G. W. Fortune and Rev.\nGoodfield also spoke expressing\nsympathy with the cause and\nwere anxious to know more of\nthe inner workings. There were\npresent His Worship Mayor Rogers and Commissioners Greer\nand Short.\nUpon motion the criminal code\nof Canada and the Provincial\nstatutes, as revised and amended,\nwere adopted for the city of\nCranbrook until such times as\nthe commissioners had the nee\nessary by - laws framed and\npassed.\nChief of Police Baron presented a list of equipments necessary\nfor the efficiency of the police\ndepartment, which was approved\nby the commissioners.\nThe police were instructed to\nnotify the women inmates of\nhouses of ill \u00E2\u0080\u00A2 fame that they\nwould only be allowed up town\nor away from their district between tiie hours of 1 p. m. and\nand !l p. m., in the afternoon of\neach week day aud not at all on\nSundays, and that these instructions would be adhered to.\nIt was decided that the regu\nlar meeting nights of the commissioners should be the 1st\nTuesday of each month, but that\nspecial meetings were to be\ncalled by the chairman or one of\nthe commissioners.\nIt was moved and carried that\ntho commissioners recommend\nthat the city council procure the\nrequired stationery for the police\ndepartment, samples of which\nwere supplied by the chief.\nMeeting was then adjourned to\n.Many present signified their intention of joining. Forsyth, Royal hotel,\nKimberley,\nQuarrel Among Italians Results\nin Shooting of Gabriole\nCozza.\nFrank Amantao, an Italian,\nwas arrested Sunday, at Morrissey, on a charge of murdering u\nfellow Italian named Gabriole\nCozsa.\nIt appears that an Italian store\nin the Morrissey townsite is the\nusual place of meetiii;; for Italians on Sunday. Lust Sunday\nquite a number had congregated\nat this store in the afternoon\nand about 5 o'clock some dispute\narose amoug then, in which the\nprisoner and the murdered man\nwere mixed up. This dispute\nled to a scrap inside of the store\nand when order was restored,\nthrough the influence of some of\nthe Italians present, at half past\nfive, the prisoner, the deceased\nand a number of others left the\nstore with the intention of returning to the Carbonado mines,\nwhere they all reside and work.\nA few minutes after leaving\nthe store the dispute which arose\ninside the store was renewed and\nthe renewal resulted in the deceased putting his hand in his\npocket and pulling out a knife.\nSeeing this, the prisoner, Frank\nAmantao, drew his revolver.\nThe deceased turned and ran and\nas soon as he did this Frank\nAmantao fired three shots and\ndropped him\nNot content. Amantao ran and\nfired two more shots at his head\nas he lay prostrate. After this\nthe deceased never moved.\nIn the midst of the excitement\nwhich ensued H. Bugbie and J.\nCameron, two residents, forced\ntheir way through the crowd,\nseized Amantao, disarmed him,\nmade him their prisoner and\ntook him to the lock-up.\nThose who have seen the locality, say that the course of the\ndeceased, when running away,\ncan be traced with the drops of\nblood which followed the first\nshot.\nAn inquest will be held immediately by deputy coroner Bleas-\ndell.\nAt the termination of the inquest on Monday into the death\nof Gabrielle Cozza, the jury returned the following verdict:\n\"We find that Gabrielle Cozza\ncame to his death on Sunday,\nthe 10th day of December, 1905.\nat the town of Morrissey Mines,\nbetween the hours of 5 and li p.\nm., from a gunshot wound in\nthe head inflicted by Frank\nAmantao.''\nWe make none but pure candies.
