GOODE.\nPresident.\nOur Fire Fighters\nThe Cranbrook Fire Brigade\nresponded to an alarm on Monday evening. The call was sent\nIn by Chief Kink, and the response by the brigade showed\nthat Cranbrook has firefighters\nthat are second to none in the\nKootenay, In just two minutes\nfrom Ihe time the alarm was\nsounded, water came from the\nnozzles, and in four minutes two\nstreams were in action playing\nover the highest building in\ntown.\nThe reason for the sudden call\nwas that Mr. Geo. B. Luwry. inspector for the Mainland Board\nof Fire Underwriters was in\ntown, and Chief Fink suggested\nthat he should make an inspection of tho Cranbrook Brigade,\nits apparatus, and manner of\nfighting fire. After the trial\ntest of the efficiency of the\nBrigade, Mr. Lswry placed a\nguage on the hydrant and found\nthat the pressure was 98 and\none-half pounds. With two\nstreams playing it was 72 pounds\nwith a Siamese coupling on one\nline of hose, playing, in all three\nstreams, the pressure was 62\npounds. It was found that the\nsupply of water was sufficient\nfor all necessary fire protection.\nMr. Lawry was well pleased\nwith bis inspection of the water\nsupply, the apparatus, and the\npersonnel of the Brigade, and\nremarked, that Cranbrook w|s\nbetter equipped for fire protection than many towns or cities\nmuch larger than Cranbrook.\nC.P.R. Builds Kootenay Central.\nConstruction is assured for the\nKootenay Central Railway.\nAt Canadian Pacific headquarters at Vancouver, it was\nannounced on Monday that the\nC.P.R. will build this summer\nthe projected line from Golden\nto Fort Steele connecting with\nthe Crow's Nest branch. The\nbranch line will be known as the\nKootenay railway.\nV.\"\nON THE GRIDIRON\nC.P.R., Shops and Fire Brigade\nplay a olose and exciting gains\n-One more game.\nThe C.P.R. Shop defeated the\nFire Brigade in the' football\nmatch on Tuesday evening by\ a\nscore of two to1 nothing.
