The large dining room\nwas beautifully arranged and\ndecorated, and at in p. m., the\nhour for commencing the tables\npresented a very attractive appearance.\nAbout fifty guests sill down to\npartake of the good things provided by \"Mine Hosts\"Hoggarth\nami Rollins. This part being\nended at 11.80,, President Beat-\ntie look llie chair and in n few\nwell chosen words welcomed llie\ndelegules Irom the different\nparts of the district and ihon\nproposed the toast to tho\"King\"\nafter which all joined in singing\n\"God save Ihe King.\" The\ntoast lo Ihe delegates was then\nproposed, and Mr. Galbrailh responded expressing pleasure at\nbeing in Cranbrook and although\nthey had been hard at work yet\nthe different questions had boon\nwell handled with united feeling,\nall pulling together for the\nprogress of the ccuntry. Coupled with this name was Mr.\nParrel of Moyie. who stated that\nthe work of the meeting was in\narrange so that hard times could\nne avoided. Mr. Falding of Rossland spoke to the subject thanking the Cranbrook people for\ntheir genial hospitality.\nMr. G. O. Buchanan president\nof the Associated Board was\ncalled for the next toast, lie\nstated this was the *tli annual\nconvention. Being far from the\nseat of legislation this association fills the bill and takes up\nlarge questions as a preliminary\nto parliamentary work. This\nlast year was a success. Figures\nshow great progress. ln these\ndistricts we have :\"!\"> mills with\nan average of 2,800,000 feel per\nday. $10,000,000 invested and\n$2,000,000 paid in wages and\nfully three fourths of this is in\nEasl Kootenay. From the addresses it was evident that there\nwere great signs of improvement\nRossland was brightening and\nwilh Ihe present knowledge in\nthe hands of the promoters they\nwould now be able to pay large\ndividends. In all parts there\nwere signs of activity. During\nthe evening the proceedings\nwere enlivened by songs from\nMessrs J. Ryan, A. Shankland,\nJ. Simms and .1. McSweyn and a\ncouple of recitations by J. Bales.\nAt last when well on iu the night\nthe company dispersed each expressed the opinion that a good\ntime had been spent and with a\ngood cheer each left for his\noom. Burns Co., who has been ill\nfor over n week, is out once\nmore receiving the cougratula-\ntiojiwrf his tunny friends.\nThe Largest Silver-lead Producing\nDistrict in British Columbia.\nIn no other district in the province was there such a large increase in mineral production in\n1905, as compared with 1904, as\nin Southeast Kootenay, which\nproduced lead, silver, coal and\ncokejin greater quantities in 1900\nthan ever before, to which advantage- was added the higher\nprice of the two metals mentioned.\nThe particular instances of\nprogress In this district were the\nconsiderably enlarged operations\nof the St. Eugene lead-silver\nmine, which is by far the largest-\nproducer of lead in Canada; the\ncommencement of regular ore\nproduction by the Sullivan\nGroup, also lead-silver mines;\nand increase of production at the\ncollieries of the Crow's Nest\nPass Co.\nThe year's progress at the St.\nEugene may be forcibly told in\nbut lew words. Ore milled 130,-\n000 tons, (in 1004, 73,000): concentrates shipped 30,000 tons,\n(in HUM, 15,000 tons:) lead produced 40,000,000 lbs (in 1905,\n21,000,000;) silver produced,\n1,000,000 ozs. (in 1994, 541,500\nozs) of the ore and concentrates\nproduced U..708 tons were\nshipped to Europe, and tho remainder to Nelson and Trail.\nThe average metal contents was\nsilver 24 ozs. per ton and lead (17\nper cent.\nAu increase of 26,500,000 lbs\nof lend, or more than 50 per cent\non the production of 1904, is a\ndecidedly substantial result of\nihe year's lead ore mining.\nWhile nboul 40,000,000 of the\n57,000,000 lbs produced came\nfrom the Si. Eugene, the balance\n17,000,000 lbs came from over\n200 mines and prospects.\nThe coal mines of the Crow's\nNest Pass produced more coal\nand coke in 1905 than all the\ncombined Coast and Island coal\nmines.\nThe Si. Eugene is tho largest\nsilver-lead producing mine in\nCanada, with the Sullivan group\nof mines a close second.\nThe net earnings of the St.\nEugene for 1905 were more than\n$512,820.\nEast Kootenay produced 24,200\ntons of lead, Ainsworth and\nSlocan 3,698 tons, all other parts\nof British Columbia 738 tons.\nWill Ask Government Aid.\nThe Golden Board of Trade\nhas wired the Cranbrook and\nFernie Boards of Trade request\ning them to send delegates to\nVictoria to cooperate with them\nin asking the Provincial Government to grant financial assistance\ntowards the construction of the\nKootenay Central Railway.\nAt it special meeting of the\nCraubrooli Board of Trade held\non Monday, Mayor Rogers and\n.1. A. Harvey, who are now at\nVictoria on city business, were\nappointed as delegates to represent the Cranbrook Board.\n11. G.
