The loss is estimated at\nabout (9,000, with un insurance\nof \u00C2\u00BB4,000.\nMr. Neil speaks of rebuilding,\nbut has not, r.s yet, fully decided\nRev. J. P Westman spent last\nSunday In Moyie preaching in\nconnection with the anniversary\nservices of the Methodist church\nat that place. On Monday evening he delivered his lecture on\n\"You're It.\" Large audiences\nwere present both Sunday and\nMonday and the anniversary\nservices were a success. The\nchoir provided the musical programme and after this was finished the pastor, Rev. D. M.\nPerley, served all present with a\n\"bachelor's lunch.\" All had a\ngood time.\nTHS MUNICIPAL SUCTION\nAlex.\nMoffat Hat Mooting\nWentworth Hall.\nIn\nMr. Alex. Moffat, a candidate\nfor the honor of baing first mayor\nof the City of Cranbrook, held a\nmeeting in Wentworth Hall on\nWednesday evening.\nMr. P. DeVere Hunt, chairman\ncalled the meeting to order at\n8.30 p. m.\nMr. Moffat was the first speaker, and started out by saying\nthat he was the nominee of no\nclique or party, he was a Liberal\nbut would act independent of\nparty in looking forward to and\nprotecting the best interests of\nthe c ty. That as a matter of\npublic utility be saw no reason\nwhy the city should not acquire\nthe Water Works and Electric\nLight plants, a goody revenue\ncould be derived from them. He\nclosed by soliciting the votes of\nthe electorate pledging himself\nto be careful in protecting and\nsafeguarding the Interests of\nevery citizen of Cranbrook.\nG. T. Rogers, who is also a candidate for mayor then sdd reeled the meeting. Mr. Rogers\nwas th j recipient of much ap\nplause and enthusiasm when he\nreached the p inform. He stated\nthat he attended the meeting\na citizen snd a listener, not a* a\nspeaker, it being Mr. Moffat'*\nmeeting. He agreed with the\nnomination for alderman, that\nbe was an old timer in the city,\nthat he had assisted in its upbuilding, and propose to stay\nwith it, that having accepted the\nnomination, he was in the hands\nof his friends and would expect\nthem to assist him a* much as\npossible in the coming contest.\nHe closed by asking all voters\nto sustain him on election day at\nthe polls.\nJ. P. Fink, candidate for\nalderman, in a brief and appropriate speech, pledged himself\nto do everything possible, if\nelected, for tbe up building of\nCranbrook.\nGeorge Tisdale, candidate for\nalderman followed, and stated\nthat all matters pertaining to\nmunicipal affairs should receive\nhis earnest attention, that he\nwould discbarge hi* duties as\nalderman, conscientiously and\nhonestly in the best interest of\ngood city government.\nMessrs Hickenbotham, P. Now, however, we learn\non good authority it is intended\nto actively push construction of\nthe road, and that with an important object in view.\nThe C. P. R. have about completed their line to connect the\nCrow's Nest road with Spokane\nand the junction on the Crow\nwill be at Yahk. There is not\nmuch object in connecting the\nCrow alone however, as it is the\npasseuger traffic on the main line\nthe C. P. R. mainly lays Itself\nout for, and thecompany's object\nin building the Kootenay Central is in reality to give the fastest and best route between the\nmain line and Spokane, by means\nof which the company hopes to\nhandle a largely Increased\namount of American travel and\nuse the new road as a lever in\nfighting the Great Northern\nThe light between these two\nroads is becoming very acute\nand the opening of the Client\nNorthern branch lines in the\nBoundary has cut C, P.
