M. Collison, of the Dominion\nfisheries department, and Chas.\nHickman of the Provincial, have\nreturned from their annual in-\nspectioa trip into the spawning\ngrounds and fish ladder of Me-\nziadian lake. They found the\nfish way in good condition, except that the resting places were\nsilted up. They report that\npractically no trail exists from\nGeorges' cabin on, and it took\nthem four days to make the trip;\nwhereas, if there had been a\ntrail, it would have taken only\ntwo. They had with them four\nIndian packers from Fort Simp-\nsonj The marine and fisheries\ndepartment boat, Marfish, came\nin Thursday for Mr. Collison and\nthe Indians. Mr. Hickman will\nreturn south on Sunday. John\nT. C. Williams, fisheries inspector, came in on the Marfish.\nPostal Rate Increase\nWilliam Cameron, the local\npostmaster, is in receipt of instructions from the department\nin Ottawa whereby the psesent\npostal rate on letters is increased\nfrom 8 to 4 cents on all letters\naddressed to places within the\nDan and Andy Lindeborg have\nbeen developing their Riverside\ngroup all summer. This work\nhas proved that there is at least\none large shoot of high grade\nconcentrating ore on the property. The lower tunnel has\nbeen extended during the summer in order to gain depth on the\nshoot developed in No. 1 tunnel\nand exposed on the surface by\nopen cuts. This tunnel is now\nwell into the ore at a depth of\nabout 60 feet. The ore is galena\nand iron pyrites, and much of it\nis of shipping grade. The upper\ntunnel was started on the ore and\ndriven for a distance of 240 feet,\nwithout reaching the end of the\nshoot. An average assay of the\nentire body for the first 150 feet\ngave values of a little better than\n$20 in gold and silver. Beyond\nthis 150 foot point numerous assays have been taken, none of\nwhich fell below the average\ngiven above, and some went as\nhigh as $200.\nThe Lindeborgs intend to at\nonce resume work on the lower\ntunnel with a view to extending\nit and blocking out the ore in this\nshoot.\nThe Riverside camp is within\na few hundred yards of the Salmon river wagon foad, and only\nseven miles from tidewater,\nthereby admirably situated from\na transportation standpoint.\nA. St. Clair Brindle of Victoria\narrived on the George, Sunday.\nT. J. Shenton, mine inspector,\nafter spending a week in the dis-\nBritish empire and the United, trict and visiting the Premier\nmine, returned soath, Sunday.\nGeorge Clothier, resident min-\nng engineer of this district, has\nbeen busy all week making his\nannual inspection of properties in\nthe district.\nStates; to all other countries the\nrate will be increased from 5 to\n10 cents.
