" I ONLY A PLEASURE TRIP ®«
In the past it was a hardship to go into the Yukon or
Atlin districts, while now that the White Pass & Yukon Eail
Road is completed and in operation to Bennett it is only
a pleasure jaunt. A year ago the prospector and miner
carried his outfit on his back and on foot over the treacherous
mountain passes dividing the coast from the interior, the
trip occupying several weeks of ceaseless, untiring mental
and physical effort. Now the gold-seeker can sit in a
cushioned seat and from a car window view the unrivaled
scenery, and accomplish in six hours that which twelve
months ago necessitated weeks of back-breaking exertion.
The journey from Skaguay over the far-famed White Pass
to the valley of the Yukon is no longer one of hardship; it
is a decided pleasure, with all the unpleasant features eliminated. In going to the Atlin or Yukon gold fields the only
sensible way to reach these districts is via Skaguay and the
White Pass & Yukon Route—the only railroad in Alaska and
British Columbia north of summit of White Pass.
6N@ CHANGED CONDITIONS ®\s
The conditions prevailing in the interior will undergo a
radical change the coming season owing to the increased
facilities for transporting supplies over the pass. The completion of the White Pass & Yukon Rail Road from salt
water to the head of navigation on the upper Yukon will
insure an abundance and variety not only of the staples but
also the luxuries, and at prices but little higher than on the
coast. No longer will the trip be attended with hardships
and privations, but will prove a pleasure jaunt over one of
the most scenic routes in the world, in comfortable and
modern coaches.
«N® ENTREPORT TO THE INTERIOR ®^
Skaguay is the nearest port wherefrom to start for Klondike or Atlin and is the entreport for all points in the
interior. It is the coast terminus of the White Pass & Yukon
Rail Road, which makes direct connections with steamers
on the upper Yukon. The people here are noted for their
hospitality, and all arrivals are assured a cordial welcome
with courteous and honest treatment. Parties wishing to
get to Atlin or the Klondike as comfortably and cheaply as
possible will make a mistake if they go any other way than
by the White Pass & Yukon Route, via Skaguay.
) THE ATLIN GOLD DIGGINGS ®\9
The Atlin gold diggings, which has become almost as
famous as the Klondike, and which in reality is a second
Klondike, is situated in British Columbia, some eighty miles
due east of Skaguay. The first discovery was made on Pine
creek, a little stream flowing info Lake Atlin. The news of
this new strike spread like wildfire, and in an increditable
short space of time fully 5,000 people were stampeding the
district. There seemed to be indications galore of pay gold,
and thousands of claims were located on Pine, Spruce, Birch,
Otter, Wright, Ruby, Musket, Granite and Marsh creeks, all
tributary to Atlin and Surprise lakes. Very little development work has been done, and yet thousands of dollars in
gold have been taken out during the few weeks the men
have worked.
a |P mX
U cr Ss. tfl
" o
in
mi ag
UJ
h
D
O
DC
Z
0
*
D
>-
p
(0
(0
<
0.
Ui
H
I
5
The Atlin Gold Fields
A Veritable Poor Man's Country
It is a Sportsman's Paradise
Large and Small Game are found
In Great Numbers
Since the wonderful Klondike discoveries have
been made, and the world made conversant of the
fact,
New and Rich
m !| Gold Fields
have been located in other portions of the
GOLDEN NORTH
The most promising beingthe ATLIN DISTRICT
in NORTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA.
McDonald and other creeks across the
Line in the North-West Territory are being prospected with good results.
THE WHITE PASS & YUKON ROUTE
IS THE most direct way
TO reach atlin gold fields
and Mcdonald creek district
U
D
O
i
Q
-J
O
O
iT
o
u.
(0
Id
<
UJ
DC
O
Q
Z
m
O
<
h
_I
X
h
Id
I
~g2 s
'S3 o
^■a ui -i
*) - >
5*8<
d
oq
if
r-
UI
z
â–
m
co ^ < g *
I
I
m
W i
H^ -J
a I
w §
PQ £
1
o
I
f
|
|
S
WWW
If 1
ss
|
f
a>
1
M
o
g* B
LOC
Genera
Etc., own
TJ ^^
I
i
5j
Cb <*■re §>
Q
si 5'
■"" D
° o.
o -
a o
I *
§
a
1
3
c
3
*
2.
ire
00
b
o
o
8* 1.
II
1 f 3D
*£ C
.° 1 o
gf I
1 1 H
1 1 1
1 • >
1 i oo
m
>
(ft
(ft
P-
■<
c
*
o
z
o
c
H
f
3
I'i
6S
1? 8
B.
