Like its predecessors the
work i.s a very complete and interesting handbook of Canadian
( newspapers, and all that jipper-
• tains thereto. "It i.s useful' as a
business directory, because a
carefully prepared synopsis is
given of each' (own in which a
newspaper i.s published.
The Directory .contains com-
-, pfetc lists of newspaper towns,
arranged alphabetically,by Pro-'
viiices, with,ample details as to
tho issue, publishers /politics and
estimated circulation of each
paper. Similar lists condensed
for ready reference, a' list of
daily papers, a list of newspapers by counties and a1 classified list-showing lhe many
different 'kinds of papers pub;
lished in'Canada make this a
thoroughly complete newspaper
gazetteer.
One of the best features of fhe
work is a sot of special maps of
the different Provinces, showing
only the towns in which papers
are published., These maps are
enclosed in a convenient envelope
instead of being bound in the
book as formerly, which, makes
Iliem more ' convenient to
handle. - ' - '
Tho publication of this Newspaper Directory every alternate
year is certainly a commendable
enterprise* on tho part of nMel-Tim's Advertising ' Agency,'
.which -seems'to ,. be very progressive and up td'date in every
respect. ■ ■ ■'
/ God Leads Us'
.In-the valley of Norway the
bird-lover caged the young in
th,o nesl, and' kept the'birds'in
prison'until the days, in August,
when all,, the'"'Norwegian birds
were moving southward. Until
later days when the woods were
silent, at least, searching, every
thorn hedge, without' finding a
trace of a migrating bird, the
scientist returned home to'say
that when the storm had passed
ho would release the birds' that
now were left without a guide.
ti
One sunny morning in October,
when he felt sure that they could
make their way in safety south,
-he took them to the top of a
high hill, to see whether the
homing instinct ' would<•,. guide
them. ■ ,
■ For an hour they fluttered
about in the trees, but ,'they
wanted" not food, for they had
been fed. They were taking
their bearings. Then they rose
into the air, and then, straight
as a bee line, following the homing instinct, they ^started toward
the soft, southern climes of Italy
, and north of Africa, and through
the trackless < air these lone
wanderers were not lost, for
when another spring came, lo!
one morning with his glass the
scholar saw two of his birds, the
silver thread gleaming about the
foot, Hitting about on the
orchard grass of the June morning, back in their old home.'
Is Clod and nature so kind to
the little birds, and so harsh to
the soul, big with eternal hopes,
following its instincts, as did
brave Socrates, out into the
night and the storm?
Fort Steele
Diamond Jubilee
Hospital
MISS FOI-SON.
MATKON.
(Ji.nlimli' of Si.
