At about a quarter to seven  Friday morning last, an explosion  took place in a powder shed, in  tha rear of John McNeviu'e board*  ing house, on Dunimnir Avenue,  causing the wreck of several build,  ings and badly damaging others;  nearly all the glass and sashes were  blown out of the business portion  ot the city, Campbell Bros., general store MoNevin'a boarding  house and I. Mounee'a private  residence being very badly wrecked  Fortuuately there was no lots of  life. The contents of several of the  dwelling portions ef the buildings  ou Dunimulr Avenue were almost  totally destroyed; glassware and  furniture being one mass of ruin,  Tbe eause of the explosion is not  known, some say that a hoarder  Ignited a match with his foot and  eoming in contact with some loose  powder eausing the explosion, but  nothing definite een be learned.
