Since then, the trust has acquired thousands of hectares of critical habitat.  It has no income source now but does not touch its principal; spending only the interest.  The Osprey story tells how populations of this big fish hawk have returned to great abundance on Kootenay Lake.  Numbers around North America fell sharply due to DDT residues.  As they increased in the Kootenays a decline in nutrient levels caused great decline in the food source fishes used by ospreys.
